Ok, one of our clients needs a property 1000 ft by 330 ft brush hogged (about 7.5 acres). The city will charge $125 per hour. Could we charge 100 per hour, and rent a tractor? I am waiting for a rep from Kabota Dealer to call me back with rental prices. Ill post prices ASAP, input Needed!!!!!
Thanks, Russell

The Dealer says $250 a day...... The city called me back and said atleast 5 hours, so $625.
We are trying to save the owner some money, and told him we would do it for $350, i know its way to cheap. But we will get to mess with a Kubota for a day, maybe move some dirt, and brus hogg some of our land.

The city is NUTS :dizzy::dizzy: 5 yrs to cut 4 acres, you should be able to cut that in 2 hrs maybe 2.5 with a 5 foot deck and small tractor depending on how long it is.
I could cut that in an hour easy with my 15 foot Batwing and not much longer with the 8 footer.

Yea, but this is the same city that it took them 1.5 hr to mow 1 acre, 10 inches tall. The city is crazy... If you have a garage sale for more than 15 days, you will get fined. They also take sign in the right of way and at corners (my parents are/were realtors).
Also, once u get one letter about overgrown property, they can come back again once the grass is 10 in tall, and charge the $125 an hr. They will "rape" people.

should be nice to make $125.00 ph...around here the city charges $125.00 for paper work plus .007 per sqft..that would make that job $2310.00 plus $125.00

i would say charge the owner around $400...if you save him some money he shouldn't forget that. It might be cheap now, but could possibly pay off in the future with future business.

Yea, but we already told him 350, and we manage most of his offices (he has like 13) we plow most. And he is like the guy who used to do it charger $100. But that guy died this week, and he mowed it monthly.... But we should have said $500. I will post pics soon of it... Thanks for the input

Well, so far it looks like we wont get the job... "He was like you are gonna charge $350? The last guy was just $100." I said "well heres the thing, the last guy did it monthly, so it was never this tal or thick. And the ground wasnt this rough, which is a big factor." (When they added the Super Center to the Walmart next door they dumped the dirt there!)
So... I think he thinks we are trying to rip him off... I told him the city would charge $125 per hr. (He knows that, he got the notie) And i talked to the city, and they said atleast 5 hours for about 4 acres.....Holy crap, thats atleast $625...So i told the owner, they think $625, and i think he thinks i lied, so we would get the job.....
So.... he will wait till the last min, and want us to do it, and we wont be able to. So the city will come in and charge $625.... And he will have learned his lesson.

And for anyone who was wondering what the city uses, i was at the municipal building, and They have some big John Deeres, and New Hollands, and some other yellow tractors. The John Deere, and New Hollands have some 6-8 ft flail mowere, the wellow ones have like 6-7ft choppers on the back, and get this! One John Deere has one of those 120 ft Batwing mowers... Yea, they are freakin nuts, 5 hours my @$$!

One does wonder sometimes if one shouldn't just let it go, and it's not that I can't,
but see Rusty here's the problem, fact is you don't know what you're doing,
you've never done this sort of work before, you don't know how to bid it, and
yet you expect these folks to fall flat on their face out of some stroke of the
d.a. hand you all this money that doesn't belong to them but that they WILL
be held accountable for, and that's just for starters.
Maybe I was the only one teetering on the edge just itching to find out how
THIS one was going to turn out, but then I'm guessing the folks in charge of
this job must have gleaned as much out of it, too.
Renting equipment for raking in a profit while giving them a 'good' deal when
in reality you simply whizzed up a 1 over 2 formula which divvied up the city's
price and handed that to them figuring you were their next Johnny Whoop.
Now THAT's funny.
Probably they just didn't want to tell it to your face figuring you might 'get' it in a gentler way.

There ya go. That's what I was going to suggest...sub it out. You can no way rent the equipment and do for less than you can have it done.
The poster was looking at atLEAST hours time, by the time he goes down, rents the machine, transports it to the site, returns it, and finishes that paperwork. Probably 4 1/2. So, you put some fuel in the machine (10 bucks) and fuel to get the machine, he will be bringing in a whopping 20 bucks or less per hour. This isn't making any money...as a matter of fact, it is operating at a loss.
get someone to so it, and even if he comes out with 5 bucks in his pocket in the end, it will be more than he'd make doing it himself. Remember,... if you get a sub to do it, this is time you can be out doing something else. Around here, I'd get that done for somewhere around 120 to 150.

Your going to end up loosing all your business with this guy over bushogging this overgrown property. Don't "pester" him over this, let the City come in and charge him the "outrageous price". This sounds like some "fishy" BS going on here I would not have the time to play these games.
I would say renting a tractor & a Bushogg leaves little room for profit on this job, guy is already "busting your balls". You going to end up cutting this for less than what the city would charge, and this guy wins you loose. Again give him a good price, and walk away.
Well, so far it looks like we wont get the job... "He was like you are gonna charge $350? The last guy was just $100." Well, we dont worry about it, some guy is using a 22" or like 25" walk behind, he said he will do it for $50. That sounds to low, but topsites makes a good point. Im about to post pics.
