Here are a few properties that i mow. I have been wanting to take some pics for awhile now and I finally got the chance. The first one is my own yard, doesn't stripe well and I usually don't mow it very often. The next 4 are a wood shop that I mow. It is mostly all ditches and is very uneven and hilly. I have a hard time making straight stripes as you can see.

Here is a house that I mow from time to time when the owner is on vacation or away for business. I had to mow it a lot shorter than I would have mowed it if it was my own yard. Anyways it is a nice property. By the way, can anybody quess by looking at the pics what I am using for my mower?

Looks sweet, my guess for a mower is a 48 or 52 inch floting deck wb

Stripes look like an Exmark...
Exmarks lay some pretty nice stripes, and these ones are well-defined.

I wanted to note this is the wood shop that it talked about in a earlier thread this year. Basically they wanted me to mow it for cheaper, but we worked out a deal.

I don't wanna sound mean but to me you need more practice with your stripes...in some of those pics it looks like you were all over the place...i know you mentioned hills but I'm sure you can do much better...nice lawns though..

You need to look at something far in the distance right above the end of the grass area and just go straight at it fast....don't look at anything else but the object you first concentrated on in the distance before you started your pass.
Your stripes will get straight.
Nice pics.

Yeah I know they are not straight. The ground is bumpy and uneven but I could also probably do better if I would slow down a little when I mow. Sometimes I run my exmark about wide open and it bounces a little more than it should. Anyways, thanks for the comments.
Also the last pic on my first post is the same as the first pic on the second post. They are just from a different angle and I know what you mean when you say it looks like I was all over the place. I don't know why that pic makes it look so bad.

Thanks, I will try to look farther ahead when I mow and keep it as straight as possible. It gets when the rows are that long though and I am going way to fast.

I've spent a lot of time on WBs and ZTRs at my "real" job in the past few weeks. Got moved from the install crew to the grass crew.
The hardest part for me was getting used to the machines.
Sure, I can look way ahead, mow to it, and when I get there, by lines are pretty straight, but real wobbly. I've been getting better though. It just takes practice.

Ya it is alot easier to pick something out in the distance and jam to it. Then if you are a little off you can fix it on the way back. Overall, you did some nice work.

Looks good, as far as keeping the lines straight and looking at something in the distance for the initial cut, why not just start on one side at an angle? That is what I do and it helps keep the lines straight because the first cut is really short, then the next cut right next to it is a little longer but you have a line to go off right next to you. Works well for me.

Ya, it is easier to run diagonal stripes, but I like to see vertical and horizontal stripes mixed in as well.

Well for vertical and horizontal stripes do the same thing, start on one side if you have a line to go off of next to you. (sidewalk, driveway, etc.)

I live in Central Illinois. I don't know if you remember or not, but you live in the same town as some of my wife's aunt's and uncles. So, actually I would probably be more likey to say that some of your yards look familiar if you post pics.

I will will work on getting my stripes straight, if you work on fixing your grammar.
I believe you wanted to say "Get your stripes straight."
You said "get you are stripes strait." Meaning for me to get my stripes in a narrow navigable channel of water that connects two larger navigable bodies of water.

It was a long day, but I got a few pics taken. I hope my stripes are a little straighter this time. Sometimes I must tend to mow with a little bit of a curve in my stripes as you see in the pics.
Pic 1: good yard, cut at 3.5 inches
Pic 2-4: Another good yard, but the owner lets her son fertilize it and he uses way to much nitrogen. I mowed it at 4 inches because that is the lowest I can go with all the growth due to so much rain.

This is another good yard, In the 1st pic on the far left behind the down spout, there is zoysia grass and it is starting to spread. I don't know why it is here in the midwest, but has been growing like crazy.
gdguth
07-10-2009, 01:32 AM
The 1st pic is a before of the 2nd pic. As you can see, the grass is all falling over on the right side of the yard. The house is being sold and there were guys out in the yard doing some work on the house. The grass must have been at least 8 or 9 inches tall. I cut it back to 4 inches. It was fertilized a few weeks ago right when it was hot. So, I started mowing it higher because I thought it would burn it and it would have but then we have gotten a lot of rain and now it is out of control. This is a ferilize company that puts down way to much nitrogen too. The other 2 pics are from the other direction. Anyways, it was nice well defined stripes.

Now I'm not one to criticize because my stripes aren't perfect. Keep up the good work and practice makes perfect!

Here are some more pics. This is my church where I attend and I also take care of the lawn there. I do this all as a service free of charge to the church. There is a lot more to mow than what the pics show. It takes about 2 hrs with the turf tracer. There is a lot of grass behind the parking lot in the back. In these pics I used a push mower because it was very wet when I mowed.
The 1st pic is the backside of the chuch.
2nd pic is from the front side of the church and you can see the left of the sidewalk needs landscaping done yet. We are in the process of working on it.
3rd pic is another view of the front. The sidewalks were put in about a year ago.
4th pic is plants that my wife put in. My brother and I put the mulch down.
5th pic is another view of the plants. I think the plants look good, but there is too much there. Anyways, my wife is great as she loves to plant things and take care of them.

Here is another yard that I mow. Back yard is very shaded and the bluegrass likes to lay over and not cut very well. Front yard is slow growth and doesn't look real good. Also, not much done as far as weed and fertilizer control go.

Here are a few before and after pics of some bushes that I trim every year. The bushes on the right are about 15 feet high. I wasn't able to trim the very top as they were too tall. I don't mow the yard, but hopefully some day I will.
The 4th pic is when I am mostly done.

MOWNITDOWN,
Thanks for the positive comments. No I don't own the Honda 4 wheeler, I wish. It is actually owned by my wife's best friend. Her best friends family owns it and uses it on their farm in Southern Illinois. Don't you live in Southern Indiana, you might be closer to them then I am distance wise? Actually the cow pic and the one of my wife, and the 4 wheeler were taken by her best friend. She visits us a lot, unfortuanetly her husband has usually can't come with her because of working on the farm. With her visiting then it is like I have two women telling me what to do. No just kidding, the three of us usually get along really well and we have lots of fun, if you know what I mean.!!!!!!!!! :cool2::dizzy::clapping::dancing::nono:
