Skinned fingers

I bought a new Super z and I noticed that the foot plate that can be lifted to access the deck pullies does not have a finger hole and ever time I have tried to lift the plate to blow that area clean I have knocked the hide off a finger. Did not my old Z have a finger hole? Was this done by design for some reason or did they just forget to put a hole in mine?

We dont put that hole in them anymore.
It was done by design.
CPSC and ANSI safety regulations....
