Ok, so a local company has copyrighted "TRUF" and "LAWN", i mean for a phone number, you can have 5296, But cant use "LAWN". Some for "TURF". We were using "LAWN", but another company in our area got sued, and the owner paid like $20,000 out of pocket. So, dont use "TURF" or "LAWN".

Dose anything esle think thast $HIT?

Check out the link, its the legal stuff about this...

Wow

I didnt realize you could do that. Having had a xxx-lawn number for years, I didnt think you could register something so generic.

Ok lets say theirs is 111-111-LAWN
(5296)
ours was 111-222-5296
(LAWN)

the thing is that he copyrighted it and that sucks, then he sued another business. If he won once, what would stop them from hunting others down and suing them?

omg omg the world's coming to an end oh no see there's the phone communists
and the courtyard terrorists and I'm not sure what that means but we're going to war...

Uhm, then again maybe not...

But I feel better now :)

On a more serious note...
I think it'll be all right, get a normal phone number, then just forget about it and get on with things.

gotcha. just get a regular phone number and provide great service and you wont have to worry about someone remembering your number. goodluck.

Technically, it's a trademark.

Ever seen the movie- 'Coming to America'?
One of the subplots has the owner of a local hamburger joint coming very close to infringing on a national chain restaurant's trademarks. McDowells vs McDonalds. They have the golden arches, we have the golden arcs. They have the Big Mac, we have the Big Mic...

These guys went to the lengths necessary to register and maintain their trademark. If you're using something similar enough to be confused with them, you could be in for a losing battle if you serve in the same market as they do. Sucks, but it's the law. Imagine yourself on the other end. I seem to recall some postings here along those lines not too long ago. Some noob shows up and hijacks your established business name or number...
