i got tired of buying ice everyday, my daughter(6yrs old) was working on a recycling thing how to use something atleast twice.

so we grabed a 1 gallon milk container and filled with water put it freezer
i also use a 2 litter coke bottles

for my 5 gallon drink cooler i use 1 1 gallon of ice and 1 2 litter of ice and keeps my gatorade cool all day.

if you think this is stupid, thats cool but you if you dont want to spend $60 bucks a month ice then this is for you:)

be safe, have a great day.

Been doing that a long time, instead I use 32 ounce bottles of Gatorade (or any brand like it).
The stuff fits in the cooler and inside my freezer better, I buy several, 3-4, maybe 5.
Buy the stuff on sale someplace, stick in freezer, next day drop in cooler.
Swap out daily (and when it gets HOT, twice a day), rotate them in the freezer, it takes at LEAST 24 hours to freeze solid.

Yes sir, a bag of ice costs well in excess of a dollar, plus the inconvenience of stopping by the station for it.
A 32oz. ade, maybe $1.50 - $2 then I get 2-3 years or so out of each bottle, they do eventually crack or the lid breaks...

Don't forget to squeeze the bottle a bit before putting the lid on, so it doesn't burst in the freezer.

.........
Did you know, I make my own automotive Windshield washer fluid?
At 2 dollars a gallon, you bet!
My cost is well under a dollar, and I almost never have an empty reservoir.

its 2.59 for ice here,i didn't even think of leaving it in the plastic,i just cut it open and put it and when it melts it makes an extra gallon (or 2 litter) of water in the cooler and with a heat index of 115+ in the shade(if you can find any).i'll take whatever i can get

i used the bottle twice so my daughter takes it easy on me:laughing:

My step-dad's parents did this when I got introduced to them when I was about 10 (20 years ago) and they still did it years later. That's all they knew... They didn't have an ice maker, and buying ice was crazy. They had a deep freeze in the upper shop where they would have a dozen or so jugs frozen. Then would cut off the plastic jug and use an ice pick to break off chunks for your glass. Yes, using an ice pick for it's actual intended use!

Anyhow, it's a great way to keep a big jug cool, because it's one big block, it melts a lot slower then small cubes, and it also won't keep the water almost freezing, which is a lot easier to drink (warmer water) on a hot day.

Mcdonalds now sells ice, a bag is 1.00$

I use the ice out of my icemaker in the freezer, it makes plenty of ice for my cooler.

A bigger operation might consider getting a small commercial grade ice maker made for use in a resturant
