View Full Version : Mulching Decks on ZTRs

I am looking to buy a zero-turning-radius (ztr) mower. I would like to get a mulching deck (kit) with it. Do all mulching decks perform about the same? Do they work well at high speeds, like above 4 or 5 m.p.h.?

Bobalong,I run an eXmark lazer hp with the mulch kit only during
the drier months. If you are only mowing your own lawn and can wait till afternoon to mow,the exmark mulching system will work
great for you.We mow commercialy so we start early when the
grass is still wet, undesirable for mulching full time.If you mulch
when grass is wet,you will have a clumpy ,mushy mess.Major
green duky where you disengage the blades. northeast:cool:

And if you don't want to mulch, the Gator blades do a fine job of hacking stuff up ................

Thanks for the helpful information.
I am considering a muching deck for two reasons. One is that to reduce allergy problems, I need to reduce the amount of grass, etc. blowing around me. The other is to reduce the discharge onto my long paved driveway.
Northeast, have you had a chance to compare different mowers with mulching decks? Do you have to cut more slowly with the muching kit installed than without it? If so, how fast can you go?
I assume that the GatorBlades still require discharging cuttings from the deck.
Any further information would be appreciated.

bobalong,I Havent tried any other brand mower for mulching,I am brand loyal. Anyways you can run full bore with the exmark
mulching with no problems-----unless the grass is wet.
If the clippings on the drive bother you, just invest in an echo
hand held blower and blow them off when your done:cool:
