I have a 425 John Deere AWS and having problems with the blades not engaging. Yesterday I started mowing and after about 5 minutes I shut off the pto switch to cross the drive. When I pulled the pto switch back out I could hear the clutch engage but the blades didn't start turning. I did this about 4-5 times and each time got the same result. Didn't have time to work on it then so I parked it until today. This morning I started it, pulled the pto switch and nothing happened, I didn't hear the clutch this time. I replaced the switch thinking it was going bad but wasn't any different with new switch. I checked the belt, made sure the belt housing area was clean, everything underneath looked good. I only have about 500 hours on the mower. Any ideas??:confused:Thanks Shooter (shooter1951@frontier.com)

Your pto clutch may have seized up on you, did you check the connection where the wire from the switch goes and plugs into the clutch? Also you may have a pulley or a spindle that has eaten a bearing and seized.

Is the power transferred to the deck via shaft or belt?

make sure the belt is tight. If it is loose it may not engage.
