I haven't done a lot of machine work so I don't know if this is normal. Been using my magna-matic for over a year when I noticed this growing around the exhaust. I thought someone shoved a pine cone up there at first but I guess its just an accumulation of filings.

Hello jcltyson
Yes that build-up is normal with grinding. Its the accumulation of the grinding wheel bonding agent and metal you've ground.
The best way to remove this build-up is a light tap with a hammer on the outside of the grit guard - OR - use a flat head screw driver, or chisel and hit the build-up directly. It will VERY easily come off usually in one chunk. It does not stick that well to the powder coated grit guard.
By the look of that build-up of grit, I would guess you have a shop vac hooked-up to your MAG-9000.
Let me know if that helps or if you have any other questions.
