I just replaced the engine-to-deck belt on a 36" Bunton Hydro. The manual says that there should be 1/8" clearance between the belt guide and the belt when the belt is in the engaged position. However, I noticed when it is running that the belt appears to make contact with the guide when it flops back and forth while it is turning on the pulley. The pulley and the shaft are not bent. Do I need more tension on the belt, or do I just need to increase the clearance on the guide. The contact between the belt and the guide appears to be slight and intermittent, but I am concerned that it will wear the belt over time.

Thanks for your replies!

It would probably wear out the guide before it wears out the belt. If it bothers you just back the guide off a little until it doesn't touch the belt anymore. If the belt starts jumping off of the pulley then you know you have the guide too far away. In-so-far as the belt tension goes you don't want too much tension, you could prematurely wear out the pulleys.
