Hey guys, I have a Toro Z Master with a 23hp Kawsaki (FH680V), I believe. During extended use and when its very warm out, the engine will shut off.
Any ideas what might be going on here? I had the valves adjusted a few years ago. In another thread there was talk of needing to adjust the valves or adjust the time..?

I cut with the mower a few days ago when temps were in the mid 70's and I had no problems.

Thanks!
Chris

Anyone have past experience or mechanical knowledge as to what might be happening here?

With the information that you are giving it sounds like an ignition problem. You need to find out if it is dying do to an ignition problem or a fuel related problem.

Does it have spark when it dies or right after it dies? Will it restarted after a few minutes. If it won't restart check to see if it has spark or if it is getting fuel right after it dies? Dids it spit and sputter when it dies or just die.

things to check!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems to die out only when the temps outside are hot, and it has been used for an extended period of time. It will restart after a few minutes and on warmer days will do it a few times a day. There isnt a spit and sputter, it just shuts off fairly quickly.

From the way you are describing it. it sounds like ignition to be. would be good to know if it has spark after it dies. if there is no spark on either cylinder i would guess module. No spark on one cylinder a coil. I would check spark after it dies and go from there.

If it has spark after it dies but wouldn't restart until later could be vaporlocking, but sounds like ignition to me when you have to let it set to restart it.

anyone else

So you wouldnt think it would be a overheating issue?...since it happens only after extended use in hot weather. Would I need to check for spark immediately after the machine dies?

Yes, i would check it immediately after is dies. See if there is spark on both cylinders or just one. If you have spark but it will not start it is more then likey a fuel issue. Have to have fuel, spark, and compression to start!!!

As far as overheating that could be the issue as to a coil not working when it gets hot? i have been away a couple of days sorry i didn;t get back sooner.

No worries. Thank you for the advice! I will let you know what I figure out.
