Steering handles too close together

When I bought the Toro Z-Master (52") mower a few years ago, the ends of the steering handles would be about 2 inches apart when you brought them together for operation. A couple of weeks ago I noticed they were touching when I brought them together. It's starting to interfere with smooth operation. I looked around but I could find no obvious adjustment for this. Is there a place to adjust this?

bend them out.

Or put washers between the handles and the mounts. If you have the new style 2" levers, i would not recommend bending them out.
