I have a john deere 265 with a kawasaki fc540v 17 hp engine. As everyone else I know have a week spark. Can anyone tell me what all can cause this. I don't really know what all to look at. I have to have the electrode almost touching the ground on my sparkplug to get any spark at all. Sometime there is no spark. I replaced the coil, sparkplug wire and boot, and sparkplug. Is th only thing left the ignitor. I have it ordered. If not I don't know what to check next. Any help will be greatly appreciatde.

When you replaced the coil did you space it out the right amount?
I have a fc420v that I have replaced the coil on 2 times & once I didn't get the spacing right.

What else could it be? I know of the plug, cap, wire, coil and ignitor. What else is involved in the ignition system? I just was wondering how far this problem can go.

I would bet it is the ignitor. Most of the time it is that over the coil. But make sure the flywheel, and coil surfaces are clean. also the wires that go to the coil and ignitor can get worn through and rub along the block or shield and cause the unit to have no spark.
