I ordered a new alternator for my Walker MDDGHS with the 20.9 kubota diesel engine. It has the automotive type alternator on it and I believe it is 40 amps. I get home and look at it (wife picked it up for me) and there is no way this is the alternator for my mower, plus the bag it came in says 14 amps. Please someone tell me if I am right or not. Pics are below.
hi,
The replacement is 1/2 correct and 1/2 incorrect
It depends on who u ordered the replacement thru
[Your supplied unit comes with the universal industrial replacement engine
when ordering thru kubota ]
Walker dealer
kubota dealer
aftermarket source
Walker u will only need year, model chassis serial etc
Kubota u will need engine spec number
[different engines come with different accesories ,oil pan, altenator ,exhaust etc etc ]
After market requires numbers of original altenator
NB; kubota may not be able to supply OEM supplied original parts to public
These type of optional parts may be only available thru dealer
It really depend on who
actually supplies it eg do walker source there own or does kubota supply ???
---------------------
The after market will be able to match the altenator numbers easily
It is prefered to replace with
Nippon Denso brand [oem ] as they are high quality .There are many chinese altenator brands ,DONOT use these
---------
After all that
Why do u not have the fitted unit overhauled at auto electrical shop ?????
Should only be brushes and bearings
---
Keep the altenator area clean as the unit will overheat internally causing damage to main components

What you got was an alternator only (output is A/C only) What you need is a alternator with an integral regulator. (output is D/C ).

This was ordered through my walker dealer, but they were closed by the time I got home. You would think they would know the difference.

I have replaced more than a few alternators on Walkers. The dirty one is the right one. You can take the old one to Advance Auto to get it tested. It will plug right up to there tester for car alternators. I know because that is where I take them to get them tested when I run into a problem with them. Can not tell from the picture but if your Walker has an electric cooling fan that toy alternator will not keep up. I have seen more than a few over heat because the alternator was slipping and the electric fan was not running at speed.

Thanks for the help guys!!! My Walker has the electric cooling fan on it. I asked Auto Zone if they could test it and they said no. Maybe I will take it by there tomorrow on my way to my dealer to take this other "thing" back.
