Just wondering if anyone out there ever repairs grass catchers. I'm talking about the basic aluminum side discharge catches, not sure of the proper term. The bottoms get worn out over time and eventually gets torn open. Seems like there can be a way to repair the bottoms by welding aluminum or steel or attaching plexiglass or something. Anything would be cheaper than having to fork out $275 for a new catcher. Any suggestions or pics?

If you are talking about the part that fits over the discharge opening then i would suggest you get some sheet metal or sheet aluminum and cut it to fit and then rivet or bolt the new piece under it. I would suggest that you put two pieces under it rivet the first so that acts as the new bottom of the catch and then bolt the second piece so that it acts like a wear bar that you can replace it when it gets worn out.

What I would suggest is after you get it fixed, or get a new one, add some skids. What I have done is take 1/4 x 2 inch flat bar. Cut pieces 2 inch square, welded them on the two back corners and the front corner, cut two 1 x 2 pieces for along the leading edge, one where the curve starts and one between that and the front corner. It will add years to the life of a metal grass catcher. Steel on steel, aluminum on aluminum...
