We are looking to add another "Z" to the stable and don't know much about the Turf Tiger. Our experience is limited to the Scag WB Hydro and the Grasshopper "Z". We found a 2001 Scag Turf Tiger, 61" cut, 22 hp Kaw. liquid cooled, with 1100 hrs. The unit appears to have been well maintained and the asking price is ~$3k. I am wondering if this is worth pursuing. Where should one look for used equipment values? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i wouldn't buy a mower that old personally. It's that time of the year when the new guys realize that the long 98 degree days aren't for them and the equipment needs to go. I have started to see a few Tiger cubs and Wildcats in the local trading papers at some decent deals. Give awhile and I think the later we get into the season you will see some deals pop up on the local papers.

Thanks for the info. Basically, I was looking for a spare mower that will seldom be used. I thought that this one might fit the bill, since it was about one-third the cost of a new mower.

Should I run across a deal in the paper etc., how will I know it is a deal?

Is there a NADA or Blue Book for used mowers?

If your going ot use it as a back up mower then that maybe another story. I thought you were going to be running it all day everyday. Might not be as bad a deal if its not going to be used as much.

No not all day everyday, just for a spare. I just recently went through an equipment breakdown; rod end for control rod to the steering pump. :realmad: Stupid left hand thread rod end! I can find a hundred right hand thread ends but no left. Anyway the dealer had to order and it took several days to get it. The business can't stand a breakdown like that again, had to mow everthing with a 36".

:wall Since, I couldn't really get anyone to answer my question on the value for used mowing equipment, I am going to answer my own question so that others may benefit from my search. There are no published NADA or Blue Book "books" to my knowledge. The best way to get the going rate for a used mower, that I have found, is to Google "Used Commercial Mowing Equipment". There are a couple of companies that specialize in listing used equipment located all over the Continental US. If you know the exact model number, that you are searching for the value on, you can also do a Google search on that. The results you find may even be a CraigsList Ad in or near your location. This will give you a good starting point on what others think that their equipment is worth. Good Luck to those that follow! :)
