I am having problems in getting a spark to this engine. I have tried unplugging the ignition wires and some others but nothing seems to work. If everything is unplugged there should be a spark going to the plug, right? I'm thinking it could be the coil. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this engine?

No spark will be your coil, flywheel, or the spark plug of course. Probably your coil, that is the most common problem. GL

I wouldn't be so quick to condemn the coil, You also have a igniter (control unit) on this engine. The only wire you disconnect to isolate the engine from the mower is the black one on the igniter going to the mower harness, The other wire on the igniter must be hooked to the coil.
Below is the ignition component test procedures to assure you replace the faulty part and not a properly functioning part;
