Redmax or Husky.
Redmax makes really good handheld tools.I prefer them over anything else.

 I'll take the 210 if you wanna give it away! :waving:
and at my old job we had a set of Stihl hedge trimmers on a trimmer motor and shaft, not sure of the model, but it was hard as hell to start and but once it started, they were pretty nice. And now at my new job we've got a pole saw and the one time I've used it, it was hard as hell to start and it would shut off once you got through a limb and let off the throttle, even when it was warm you've got to choke it.
Thats what is keeping me from getting a set. dont wanna drop around $600 bucks for something I dont like..

Stihl's new handeld stuff is not near as good as there old stuff.
Redmax beats them hands down. The redmax stuff starts easy as well.
My second choice would be Husky.
Husky owns them both.

I had an old John Deere Trimmer that was ran and worked really good (it was nice for being something my uncle picked up in the trash in Tennessee) I'm not sure but maybe they sell some as pole saws or on some I think you can remove the Trimmer head and use a Pole Saw attachment. I was actually going to convert mine into a Brushcutter but never got around to it. I think I still have it. Well like I need it, my old man's got like 4 trimmers.
Just my .02 cents.

You can buy a dedicated pruning saw or you can get the powerhead in a convertible model that allows you to interchange different heads.

Buy a ladder.......
I've got Stihl's and I have sold 4 EFCO's.
The EFCO has more nuts and so far appears to be a heavier built unit. (that can work both ways) Plus you get the 5 year no fear warranty.

Or I could just climb it with my new spurs.. :cool2:
Tbi, never heard of Efco.. ;)

I thought in your state they didn't use gas powered pole pruners. It was grab the electric carving knife out of the kitchen and duct tape it to a long pole
If you don't like Stihl go look at Echo they make decent power equipment. I used a Husky power pruner a few years ago I wasn't impressed.

I just asked my boss, I work for a tree company, and he said Husky polesaws wers crap(all we run is Husky saws, beside our climbing saw) and if I really wanted a heavy duty commercial one, go with Stihl they are by far the best quality out there, he said they are heavy, but they wont break like other brands if it is dropped or something. I am going to go take a second look at Stihl, but I am pretty sure I'll end up with Stihl or Redmax..

we have a km130 power head with 37" extension and then the pole saw, it cuts like a beast. they make dedicated units that can extend out to over 12 feet. all the tree companies that we work with in the area use stihl equipment and we have been running a stihl only fleet and never had issues.

If it just a one time job you could save a bundle of money and just rent a pole saw. The local rental company around here is only $60.00 a day or $210.00 a week. If you are not going to be using one anytime soon renting would be the way to go and save a few hundred bucks.

JR, This ( http://stihlusa.com/polepruners/HT101.html ) is the saw I have and it's effortless to start, has a good amount of reach and has a good amount of power. If I were to buy again, new, I'd go with this saw http://stihlusa.com/polepruners/HT131.html it's got the same motor as my KM 130 R, which is a powerhouse. Don't be swayed by all of the Stihl naysayers/haters, Stihl makes very good equipment.

Excellent equipment. I own a MS361 for my deer hunting land and its been flawless.

we could, but a good friend of Dads said if we trimmed a dozen or so small trees he'd buy the polesaw and dispose of the debris, we just had to pile it.. :cool2:
So I am goin to get the best of the best and not look back..
Rob, I think that first link you posted is the saw we've got at work? I cant remember, its a 4mix though and it'll reach way out there..

That's a tough saw JR, don't discount it, it does get a bit unwieldy at full extension though even for me and I'm not a little guy, so be careful. I'd also recommend a forestry helmet, if you don't have one already, they run about $40, but they are worth it.

Yes a forestry helmet is a must.
It'll protect the brains you've got left, Junior. And it'll keep you from eating sawchips if you put the face shield down.

Komatsu owns Redmax.
Sorry for the redundancy, missed the prior post correcting this statement.
Used to, Husky bought it from Komatsu a couple years back.

I've got both the RedMax & the Husky. Not much difference. I use a lot of saws, mostly Stihl & Husky, their both solid pieces of equipment. I use my manual pruner more than either of the 2 gas powered saws.
If you're looking for a good deal, I've got a new Husky 326P4 in the box.
I believe the reach with Stihl, Husky, Echo is considerably more than a RedMax.

I got one running around here from when I brought my 310 earlier this year, just have to find the thing. If I cant find it, I'll put on my helmet from the fire department..
Crap, I forgot to check to see what the pole saw was today, but we only had 2 guys(me and the boss, the rest of the crew is on vacation:wall) I'll check Friday when I go back to work. But I am pretty sure its the 101.

Gas powered pole pruners do get heavy after awhile they do make straps for them that hooks into a harness you wear to help take the weight off your arms.
