I was amazed when crapsman came out with a elertric thatcher, but I just think this is crazy, who would spend any money on this POS

In my area we don't dethatch much, so mabye I'm not the best judge. I think it looks ok for a homeowner who wants to do their own lawn, but really, if I were a homwowner, I would just rent one for like $80. It would take a number of years to get to the break even point on renting vs. buying if they were to use it once a year.

exactly, they look like decent machiens from crapsman, but why would a home owner want to spent 550 on a dethather

The blades on that machine look like delta blades as opposed to the flail type used for de-thatching. Where Bermuda is prevalent it is common to verticut with a machine like that, monthly. I paid about half of that for a used Lesco lawn groomber (verticutter). It really helps keep the turf in top condition and easier to mow with a reel.
