I have an estimate for asphalt demolition and have never performed this before. My only machine is a Bobcat S250 with a cutting bucket. Can I do the job with this equipment only or is it over my head. What tips would you reccommend for doing this job. Do you feel the Bobcat skid steer can cut through the asphalt or do I need an excavator? Thanks froom a bobcat newbie.

How thick is it? On a hot summer day it should peal right up and break if its not over 4" thick. Should be able to start at the edge and work your way in. dig up under it and flip it over and it should break apart.

A good tooth bucket should have no problems getting it done. To be honest I don't know exactly what you mean by cutting bucket. Do you mean a bucket with a bolt-on cutting edge? Not trying to be a jerk just trying to understand what you've got. If you're using a flat edge bucket then make sure you have a good edge to dig into or you won't be going anywhere fast.

I've peeled up 2" pavement faster than our 320CLU could just with my regular bucket.
I've also used a grapple bucket for the thicker pavement and it works even better as it will roll up the sides faster and allows the cutting edge to get under it for better leverage.

Make sure you don't peel it up too fast. It can ride up the side of the bucket and be sitting in your lap pretty quick if you get going fast and aren't paying close attention... although concrete can be worse about that; asphalt falls apart pretty easily.

You can use a regular bucket but i like to break asphalt up with forks and load it in big chunks 4'x4'. You can load a lot of material in a hour . John
