I bought the Ohtsu tires for the drive axle in my F-450.
I'am pleased with them so far in the short time I have had them.
It is so nice not to hear tire howl, the Bandag Gripper tread is a very noisy tire. I didn't think it would be and I had to deal with the noise for 2 years. It was a high pitched howl especially driving on new asphalt.
Anyhow have to see how well these 877 Ohtsu do on the dirt and mud their highway performance already pass. No noise no tread squirm they balanced out with very little weight.
So anybody with trucks with 225 or 245/70R19.5 rubber give the Ohtsu tires a look the next time you need new tires.
For Canadians they are 313 dollars a tire for 225/70R19.5 which is 67 dollars a tire cheaper than Michelins that have a lighter tread and are no good in mud.
I will have to see if my fuel mileage goes up. The Bandags have a high rolling resistance. Bandag rated the rolling resistance as a C which is bad.

I never knew tire manufacturers has a rolling resistance rating, what was the total price tag?

Total bill for the new tires for 4 was 1543.00 dollars not bad. Next set of tires won't be till the fall when I need to change out my steer tires. I will wait as long as I can maybe till the first frost in october.
On retread tires Bandag has a rolling resistance rating the ones with the lowest resistance have a closed shoulder tread.
I learned one thing retreaded 19.5 tires are not the best.
Myself I would never buy a Goodyear tire (JUNK) their traction tire they have now isn't very good. I know one of the tow truck guys has them and I think soon as they are worn out he is going with what I bought. The guy has them on another truck.
The only problem I can see with these tires is you can't run them on all 4 corners they wouldn't wear good. They are a pretty open tread. I don't think I will have problems with mud or dirt that turns tires into racing slicks.
Not much options in the 19.5 tires. I should get 30-40,000kms out of these drive tires (18,000-24,000 miles).

I just did the same for my truck, which is now yard art with new tires and shiny aluminum rims. It is quite nice to look at a rig sitting in the yard all prettied up with no place to go........that too will change in a short amount of time I am sure. I even gave "Pearl" a new bed vibrator (called Big Bertha) which I probably should have just sat on instead - that vibrator sure shakes the truck, just wish there were materials to shake out of it!

Wow, you have sold one truck load of gravel and now have spent $1500 on tires. You have one hell of a business going don't you?
How much did you charge to haul that load of gravel? $40?

My F-450 is my daily driver for my other steady job. Yes its overkill to be driving a 9700lb truck to work. With our roads here you blow out a tire your dead. Once you go off the road the trees or rock banks re-arrange the cab of the truck and the jaws of life need to cut you out.
I figure 1500 dollars isn't bad the tires will get me two years of service. I would have gotten 2.5-3 years out of the Bandags I had if the tire casing didn't start to fail.
When you load 6000lbs of gravel onto the truck and start decending the twisty 10% grades you need good tires.
Running my truck is a part time job there isn't enough money in it to live off of it. In todays job market the construction is dead.
Last winter was horrible I had 4000lbs of balast over the rear axle and it did barely anything. I should have had V bar snow chains plus the balast weight. The packed snow was 3 inches thick and very slippery. The V bar chains would help they wouldn't get to the asphalt the packed snow is too hard.
A 10% grades makes for a intersting drive especially at 5am when I'am going to work. You are the only person on the road. No cellphone coverage the nearest payphone is miles away. There was times I was a little worried but I made it. I'am definatly ordering chains this year.
If you go off the road in the winter and get hurt the ambulance or firedept isn't going to help you.
Usually it takes me 30 mins to drive to work when it snows it takes 1 hour.
I bought some Delo 400 5w-40 synthetic today gave the truck a oil change we will see how well the Synthetic does with the 6.0. A 5 gallon pail of Synthetic is 130 dollars CND but if I can get a longer oil change out if it the extra cost will be worth it. A 5 gallon pail of regular 15w-40 Delo 400 is 80 dollars.
I can only get 5000 kms (3000 miles) out of a oil change with Dino oil. The grades and the weight of the truck. If I can get 10,000 kms (6000 miles) out of the 5w-40 I will be happy. The oil I drained out was close to being past due. It is easy when you have a Fumoto valve no mess.
I have to order some more filters from the USA I save a good chunk of money when the CND dollar is high. I can buy 3 filters from the USA for what I pay for one from the Ford dealer. Same Motorcraft filter.

pjonesco.........kinda smug there pal......even in a response to Rat. It turned from golden to rotten apples here in a matter of a day - you could feel it and see it. Glad your area is holding up, if it is. Tires are a must in my opinion, even if there is a downturn........they are the only thing between you and an accident even if hauling one load of gravel. Good times or bad, if you are running a rig up and down the highway, imo it is the ethically responsible thing to do regardless of "business plan".

speaking of deere any updates?
The Goodyear traction tire in this size is far from junk. I will easily see 50K on them. Nothing wrong with that for a tire that aggressive.

They don't make the G124 anymore in the 225-245 I imagine your 5500 has 245.
I don't know why Goodyear stopped making the button tread in the smaller sizes but they have. The replacement isn't as good I heard it really is crap in the snow and get into mud or soft dirt is worse.
