a wheel motor on my Gravely 252z is leaking pretty bad... i've just been refilling it and keeping on going, but its getting to the point where it needs to be fixed. My question to the board is, can i just get the seal replaced or will i have to buy a new wheel motor? On an old country clipper i had, i was told i would have to buy a whole new wheel motor... I sure hate to spend 600 bucks if i can just get the seal replaced. I'd appreciate your help/advice guys.

Seals usually leak because the bearing have failed and allow the shaft to wear out the seal. If you are able you get replace the bearing and the seal but if the shaft is damaged the new seal will not last very long. A good hydro shop usually can repair them but it runs over a $100l.

worn back cover on the pump / motor could be allowing high pressure oil to get to you wheel seal witch is low pressure

Most of the time i have seen the main seals pulled out or messed up by debris like weeds. Clean the outside of the seal and get the numbers off of it and go up to your local napa store and either get one or have them order it. They can cross refference the number most of the time.

The seal you will get from napa will probably be made by the same company that made the seal for parker or whoever your wheel motor is made by. So its the same seal.
