double blades on scag

Ok, guys I have done the search. Still need answers. Is there a bracket sold that works for doubles on scag. If not have any of you made one that worked. please give details and pic if you have. By the way I'm using scag turf tiger 25hp kohler 52" deck. Thanks for your knowledge and help you guys are awesome.

i only run doubles in the fall on my TT 61" but at first i got by with just puting them in the + pattern and torquing them down. i have since dedicated several sets of blades for just double usage. i now put them in the + pattern and spot weld the corners where they meet. i dont try to fuse them together i more or less am making little "ridges" to keep them from moving around.

Yes, the same brackets for a Dixie Chopper will work with the Scag. You may need to make adjustments with the spacer, but they will work. I have a friend with a 61" Turf Tiger and his work great. You can contact the DC dealer in your area. The brackets will cost about $18.00 each.

Just cross them and torque them down. Make sure the mating surfaces are clean. They stay in place 98% of the time. If they move, no biggie, its still in balance. You have to hit something pretty hard to make them move.

I have ordered bracket from dixie chopper. does anyone know if I will have to get longet blade bolts or change size of spacer that scag has between blade and spindle? Thanks

Not familiar with the SCAG TT spindle design.

1) Is it a through bolted design (Long 10" bolt with a nut on the top) with spacers between the spindle and the blade?

OR

2) Is it a small 3" long bolt that just bolts the blade to the spindle?


If it is version 1) You just need to remove a small 1/4" spacer and replace it with a blade, torque them up and go!

If it is version 2) You just need to add a blade and torque them up and go. This will cause the mower to cut one blade thickness lower than stock. Make sure you have at least 5/8" of thread "grab" into the spindle.

Thats all, no brackets needed or recomended. They cause more problems than they solve.

TLS it has the bolt on top. the spacer is about a inch thick. I Tired the torgue down method but they moved. Heard somwhere not good to over torgue on spindle. I'm going to get this down. Nobody near uses double blades hope to be first. Most of you guys seem to love them. Thanks for help.

Bolt on top or Nut?

Is your blade bolt 10" long or 3" long, or otherwise?


Might want to go out and buy a bunch of the 1/4" spacers that come on the SCAG WB's. Put 3 under the spindle, and then the double blades (this will equal your 1" spacer). If they're moving, your not tight enough! If your using 2 long 15/16" wrenches, you really have to lean on them! You cant overtorque a 5/8" bolt by hand! Are they coarse thread like my SCAG WB? Or are they fine thread like my Lazer?

Wish every manufacturer would use similarly designed spindles, would make all this questioning unnecessary!

I have the 2001 tt if yours has the same bolts as mine i would recommend you try to find longer bolts with single blades my bolts just barley protrude thru the top of the nuts with double blades on the bolt will only thread about 3/4 of the way thrue the nut .

You can not get them tight enough with a impact gun. After you tighten with air then use a torque wrench to 70 to 75 ft lbs. they wont move!.... Infact your single blades should be tightened in the same manner

WHAT???

My cheapie 1/2" impact torques forward more than 350 Ft. LBs.

I have a scag super z with 52" deck. I haven't tried double blades yet. But I am thinking about trying them out. I DO know that gator mulching blades worked HORRIBLE on my machine. Left strips of grass like crazy. I was thinking about an adapter for double blades but I think that if you have good lawns and tighten them down enough that they shouldn't move. I have yet to have any blade work loose on me and come off. I also have bolts that are 10" long. I may buy new bolts and nuts (maybe a little longer too) to try this experiment. I don't cut untill wednesday so I'll let u guys know how it turns out.
