I was wondering can a trash pump recirculating sealing rig come close to my professionally built adjitated 550 gallon sealcoat rig . I already had the 550 gallon rig , I wanted something smaller that I could pull with a small truck.
Heres what I built , its a 180 gallon round steel tank , It has a manhole on top , it is set at a 15 degree pitch towards the discharge and 1 1/2 in trash pump.
( no pic at this time) its mounted on a small trailer. I didnt set it up to spray only as a mixing tank for brushing driveways. First I will say , yes it does work , barely . The problems , first it takes a long time to mix a fresh batch of sealer , about 45 minutes , the first mixing is good until you add sand , it settles to the bottom between jobs you have to stick a shovel in to the unit and stir it up while its recirculating. Second , when it sits for 24 hours the coal tar emulsion needs to mix for an hour and a half , and you have to hand stir the mix. The clays and sand settles out and its a bit of work to get it mixed. Now i made this tank with a 2 ft square manhole on top, not the small lid on a plastic square tank.
Yes it will work for mixing sealcoat , but the difference is on my 550 gallon rig , I fire it up after sitting for a week , hit the hydraulics and in 10 minutes its mixed and ready .
My advice to tjose contemplating buying the cheap looking plastic tank , save your money and buy a hand adjitated tank and build on to it as the money comes in
