Well, i will try to make one thread for pics, it seems to be pretty trendy around here.
Well, my name is Russell, i am 17 years old, and "co own a business" with my older brother Ryan. My brother started his business about 10 years ago, he used our moms John Deere 420, and a weed wacker he got from his grandpa to mow our lawn, and he would mow a few rentals we had down the road (that was like 12-13 years ago). But anywho, when he started his business, he had a 92 or 93 GMC Sierra.
I dont remember what was first, but he bought a John Deere rider (used) that fit in the bed of his truck. And he mowed our rentals i think, and my moms office. Later on he went to Sears, and bought a 32" or 36" Craftsmen WB, and got a free or cheap Craftsmen pushmower, and leaf blower . After that he bought a snowmobile trailer from our neighbors, and used that for a while.
A few years later, he purchased a 16 or 18 ft car hauler, with sides. He painted that up and hauled his stuff with that and was growing along the way..... He sold his JD rider too.
In 06, he bought a 95 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4, and put a Western Plow on it. He also bought a 12ft landscape trailer, with high sides. (which we just sold.) http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=266895 A few months later he bought his Exmark Metro on Ebay, from a guy in Cincinati. I started working with him more.
07, we bought our Exmark Lazer Z 60" cut from some guy down in like Kentucky. We had acumulated some hand helds along the way too. He also bought another 95 Dodge Ram 2500, whick had a big rusty Fisher with it. We got a Dodge Ram 2500 with V10, but never used it for work, it just sat at our moms.
08, We sold all Dodges, and the GMC, and bought a 99 Chevy 2500, and put a Western plow on it.
09, We bought our 2009 Chevy 3500HD, and Boss V plow. We bought our 16ft traliler.
This year my brother is leaving the company, well kinda, its still his. But he is tired of grass, so me and my brother in law will do the mowing. In the winter he will use a plow truck, and we will use the other. Well, heres where the pics start.....
1,2, the John Deere 420, that helped him start it all. It has a 60" cut.
3, the 3500, and the Lazer Z.
4, the old trailer with some equipment.
5, Ryan mowing with the Metro..

A few more... The stripes with the Metro were done by me, their not perfect, but it pulls, and i am only human, but im proud of them... I also did the stripes with the sign in the front on the Lazer Z, again im not perfect, but i am proud of them.

Thanks man, yea that John Deere is awesome. My mom and her first husband bought it in like 1988, or 1989. It was like 15,000 if i remember what they said. (He was my brothers dad, RIP) Anywho, it has been in the drink once. And right now we are restoring it, it looked great for its age, but it will look nice when finished. BTW, its in "my garage" i know its messy, but it is a little cleaner now...

Well, i had a lot of parties to go to the 4th of July, and i was borrowing the truck, so me and Ryan (my boss/brother) cleaned it up a little. How dose it look?

how dare you not get the duramax/allison shame on you:mad::mad:. just kidding:laugh::laugh: but why didn't you get the d-max ? how much did that truck run you if you don't mind me asking, I'm about to get one like that except it's a gmc crew cab fully loaded with d/a and a boss 8'6" on the front:usflag:

Thanks, we bought it brand new in like Jan, we really needed another truck, and we we were looking around for one. Our dealer/friends had two of these on the lot, with Boss plow, the other has a Boss straight blade and it was white... We would have gone with the dmax and crew cab, but we test drove it, and bought it the next day, and started plowing that day....
The sticker was like $35,000
minus-1,000 GM loyalty (99 or newer)
minus- 1,000 for being a business
So it was like $35,000...
It kinda sucks because it dont got power locks or windows, and the lowers grade of stero, but again its what they had their.

Thanks, yea we have a our 99 is black and has the same problem. We went with the red because we didnt want to plow in a white truck... (The plows were interchangable, it was like $1,000 more for the v-plow ovr the straight, i think...)

What????????? What is swrs?Rusty, our spelling challenged friend meant SRW. And yes, as evident by the pictures Chevy does indeed make a 3500 HD SRW.
The truck and color are sweet, take care of that beauty and enjoy it. You got my dream truck man, aside from me wanting an extended cab and the D-Max Allison combo under the hood.

and dont forget the big tax refund your gonna get this year for buying a new truck (least i think you get one) i was reading something in the paper ill have to find it again but it was some thing like they will refund all the tax you paid for your new car or truck
ill get the add and read it this time rather than just look over it
and its always better to how no power windows or locks cause there just another thing to go wrong
did you get the carpet on the inside or the like full floor mat thing they offer?
our old farm truck we got new in 06 and we got that mat thing cause trying to clean a farm trucks carpet is a huge PIA and cleaning the carpet after walking around in wet grass is about as worse as trying to clean the farm trucks carpet it just dont happen

That is a sweet setup yall have there, very good. Those ag tires on that Z, how well do they do turns? Do they rip up the grass? I was thinking of them for a pair for my 60 Z. I have turf tires, and if you don't do that turn just right there goes a clump of the grass.
That JD, what size engine does it have?

Um, the tires are a pain in the A$$, you have to be very careful... I tear grass up all of the time, it drives me nuts... Where i live it is F.....L.....A......T.... FLAT! the only reason we have them is we bought the mower down in Kentucky or Tenesee, where its HILLY, (the dude we got it from had some balls, i swear, he was on steep hills...
I am gonna run out to my garage right now, i want to say 25 Hp, but give me a few min...

I heard things about using ag tires against turf because of ripping grass. I think there was a thread on here about it, but I never really got a clear answer. I wish everywhere I mowed was flat, I would buy a pair of slicks lol.
I have an 855 deere small compact tractor 20 years old. It has the yanmar 3 cyl diesel. I know those small garden tractors had diesels on some of them, I think they were the 55 series, like 455 I think. I didn't see the emblem on your front grill to say "diesel" so I was assuming it was a gas.
That mower will last, everything back then was built 100 percent better than now, the stuff they put out now is nuthing but shi*. You got one hell of a mower.

It doesn't matter if it's a 1 ton, it's a single rear wheel not dually so the price is almost the same as a 3/4. It is not a couple grand more, more like a couple hundred.

07-28-2009, 05:50 PM
Next, i came across some pics of our Dodges... Which we sold (Dodge Sucks)..
The red and green- one is a 94, one is a 95... The Red had a 9 ft something Fisher snow plow, and a Snow Ex tailgate Spreader (the nice big one). The green one had a 8 ft something Western snow plow...
The one with the cap had a V10, and air bags, it was 2WD, so no plow, it was gonna be for towing, but for the two years we had it, we put about 200 miles on it...

Here is my latest project... We used t raise chickens and ducks, but we gave the chickens away, and let the ducks go. Now, the ducks just run around the yard and swim in the pond...
Well, anywho, the red building had the chickens, and the open one had ducks. Well, i am gonna tear out the boxes (where eggs were laid) in side the red building, and store misc tools and what not in there, or get my moms gardening crap out of the garage, and but it in there...
FYI- Me, my bro, and his buddies built the "shed"...
I am also gonna finish down the duck pen, turn it into a garden (it has all kinds of compost in there). Plus, the ducks crap fertilizes the soil, so i will till it up with the rototiller i recently fixed.. You can see the Rototiller here... http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=282406
I am considering making the garden raised, but then the good soil would be way down... Any ideas? Also will be Where the duck pen is now, till the end of that cement pad (basically twice the width of the shed, in pic 1

Heres a new job, our mom is a realtor (she manages a office too) and she has been in the biz for like 15 years... Well, i talked to the relocation person at her company, and we will probably start doing their yard care...
The good- More work, great pat.
The bad- The properties sell eventualy, and we dont get paid until they sell...
Well, she gave us our first job, last week... We work in the Toledo area, BUT this job was in BG (Bowling Green) thats an hour round trip...
So, since we could get lots of jobs from her we decided to go out of our way for this one... It is a $25-30, but its 1 hour round trip... So do we charge $25-30, or charge $45, like she suggested? (Ans that makes up for travel time, and gas).
I think $30, since its closing the first of September (its being sold) so we are only gonna cut it six times...
So what do you think?
Sorry, i couldnt find pics of the front, but its only like 50x 6...

Yea, its all the way in BG, it kinda sucks, but we will get more work for this... And with lawns like this they have a set amount of what they can spend on the lawn... And the lady (she is older) thinks my bro is cute... So i talked to her about it on the phone and i said like $25 or $35... She was like well... "$45sounds good..." And later my mom told me that the top $$$ is pre set, so ask her for any job how much she thinks, and she will give the highest number possible!!! SCORE :clapping:

The F650 is his and the company he works at, he is the vice president there...
The Car is a mid 70's Firebird, it has a 460 Cu In Chevy big Block in it, and it makes 450 H.P. at the rear wheels...
The Red dump truck is his older dump truck, it is a Ford F8000, or 9000, i dont remember. He also had a newer one, but that blew a front tire last week, and did font flips.. It was a complete loss, but his driver was ok... Amazingly it had a full load too... Oh, yea he owns a dump trucking company: KEGZ Trucking. He also has some other trucks stored at his crane yard...

Well, yesterday we started a tree job at my buddies house... My friends dad wanted the whole thing cut down, but his wife wanted the dead stuff cut off... All we had to do was cut it down, and chop it up a little because their cousin wanted the logs for a wood burner... Yesterday we had to quit due to storms moving in, and heavy rain.
You wont find me climbing trees, especially with a saw. But my brother loves climbing, especially with saws... He dose it the old "fashion" way, a ladder, regular boots, and a rope hooked up to the truck. No lifts, spikes, safety harnesses....
We went back to day and finished it up...
FYI- Yesterday we filled their trailer up twice with logs...
I want to know how much you would have charged for this project... We were there for about 5 hours... 2 guys...

Heck if it wasn't for the damage to the rear of the bed and the year it's about the same truck as I've got. I think I saw it on Ebay year or two ago.

My street looks pretty bad at this point:mad:, we had ash trees planted on every curbside, except one:dizzy:, so the city hired a company that cleared them all then planted new trees, which look like not so good, since they are still pretty small. But which anoys me is the tree ididots cut down at least 20 perfactly fine trees through out the neighborhood:hammerhead::mad:, at bobcatguy96's house they cut a silver maple down that was at the curbside and was just fine:dizzy::dizzy: atleast the tree you cut down is dead for the most part;), but why cut alive trees down, for no reason other then to get more $$ from the city:dizzy:

Below is the link to the brochure for the program... And another thing is the school is BRAND NEW, all air conditioned, and state of the arch technology....

No, we are cool with our dealers... For example, we brought in our trimmer, and they ordered the part, and didnt realize it came in. So when we came in to check on it. They looked, found the carb, and threw it on right there. And didnt charge us... They are real cool guys...
I took the pic, because i like all of that stuff like anyone else.

Well, some of you may remember i was looking at a Snapper 26"... http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=281813
Well, today, i went over to the shop to order some snow blower parts. And let the guy know i was still interested, so he said "well, demo it". So he had his mechanics load it up for me... I drove home, and unloaded it (it weighs a ton). Started it up (first pull), and mowed a small section of our yard...
Mam, this is nice, you push this lever, and the front casters lock (straight). Which is sweet...
So, im gonna drop the money off, when my snowblower parts come in...
Heres the results...
What do you guys think... (FYI- the yard is uneven, and i was messing with the transmission, so the stripes kinda suck...)

I just went out to my garage, and snapped a few pics of what i got in there...
I got: A Tiller, (2) 21" push mowers, (1) 26" Snapper, and (1) of our snow blowers (im working on it)... And the JD 420 (almost ready for paint).

That 26 does a good job, looks like you made a good find. When you take it back put some money down for it so they don't sell it on you and pay the rest when your parts come in.

Oh, yea...
That 6 speed kicks A$$, theirs a speed for every thing...
The lever on the blade has "safety", to engage it, you gotta pull up, then push it down..
The right front caster locks (they both should, but one is missing) for straighter lines, and hauling.
It has an adjustable throttle (choke, bunny, turtle, and stop... and in between).
Id say those stripes are good for a push mower (blades need sharpened tho)
Stats first pull!
Built like a tank.
Great engine (im told, and have read)

Wow, taking pics of a the trimmers and saws at a dealer and having the time to post them up on here??? You need a girlfriend, some friends, a dog, or a hobby man!!!
You should be getting ALOT more than 30 and 40$ for those shitholes. Just wait till you hit a brick or something thats been buried for a few years and then the tiny profit you did make is gone for a while. You gotta start somewhere and we've all mowed places like that but you gotta charge correctly for it. Hell, one cut on grass like that and your blades are shot...

how do you have insureance if you hit a brick. i think the original poster meant if you hit a brick your blades will get screwed up and you will probly break the spindels and such.

Just a question why didn't you guys go with a duramax?
Ok, heres the deal...
We were looking for a new truck last year, and kept putting it off, and when we were plowing, our 99 Chevy 2500's Engine took a crap... And we had just sold off our two dodge plows... So for a few weeks we paid a friend to plow for us. We got tired of trying to fix ours, so we went to our Chevy dealer. They had two of these trucks... Their was ours (red), and another (white)... And the white truck had the v-plow on it, and ours had a straight blade... Well, we wanted red, with the v-plow... So they went out side, switched the plows (they are interchangable)... So we wrote a check for $35,000 dollars, pulled off the lot, and went straight to work...
So, we could have atleast got an extended cab, most likely a crew cab... and we would have got a d-max, but we were kinda rushed...
kylecal91

I see. Too bad you didn't have more time cause that truck is already sweet! I'm gonna try to get a dmax this coming spring.

09-04-2009, 12:13 PM
Heres a link to our myspace photos, we have a ton more pics, check them out...

2 guys...
Your brother is a dufus, once he is thrown from a tree he'll start climbing the right way..
Heres the last of the pics... He said he will probably have us back in the spring to finish it off... My brother also climbed up on their roof to replace the sealer around the soil pipe (he replaced 2).
Wow, why didnt you just finish cutting it up, its now just a giant eye sore that I may say is uglier than hell.. If I was you and the homeowner decided that I'd charge twice the normal rate to cut that piece down in the spring because it was such a stupid decision..
these have to be the worst cuts I've seen. Next time cut under the brand FIRST and then make the final cut from the top and you won't have this problem
this is the same guy that climbs the "old fashion way" :hammerhead:
your brothers "old fashion" way of climbing is stupid thats how people get killed the spikes and lanyards are used for a reason...
Thank you!
Yea, i told my bro... But he is stuborn...
I know, she hopes it will grow back. It is Ash, and most of the ash trees in our area were wiped out by the Emrald Ash Bore
Your bro will figure it out eventually..
Also, if it does grow back, it'll be uglier than sin with nothing but little pieces shooting all over the place..

I'd save the time, unless you can weld, and just let that welding class do it. You've got another trailer right? If you did it in the dead of winter, you wouldnt have to worry about having another trailer unless you haul equipment to plow with..

I love those days. Unfortunately, I don't have too many of them...
Yea, i like them... Its nice, almost no trimming, and maybe a little to blow off... You just gotta go over those a couple times sometimes...

Well, here it is, out new to us JD 647A... My bro went to Pennsylvania to get it. Its got a 19 HP Kawi, 48" 7 Iron deck... It cuts pretty nice, we have each used it for one yard. At first it was hard to go straight, but i kinda got it down.
Oh, i forgot, it has the mulch kit on it... I wanna fab something, so we can put it up or down with un bolting it...

We plan on keepin it for now, it needs a little work... I want to get a nice WB 36 next year, but we will see... The Crafstman has held up for a long time, and i think my bro is kinda attached to it, bc it was HIS first mower...

You will really like the deere. I'm buying a new one in the spring. I thought about looking for a used one, but I have gotten screwed when buying used equipment before. And I like to keep my equipment clean, and most that I have found weren't up to my standards.
Let us know how you like it on hills.

Yea, i think we will... We basically stole this from the previous owner... I like stuff clean to, but my bro dont care as much...
Honestly, i didnt like hills... I mowed the hill at our moms, i like to go striaght up, straight down (it looks better). I do it with the Zero turn and WB. On the stander i thought i was gonna fall off when going up the hill... I will get used to it over time tho.
and Yes, i know you are suppose to go across the hill, not up and down...

It definately takes some getting used to with a stander on a hill. You should be pretty impressed with its ability on hills dispite what others say about the deere design. Once you get a few more hours on it on hills, let me know what you think. I know the 60" was good, not sure how much different the 48" would be, can't imagine it would be too much different.
