Bidding another job and wondering the best way to go about this one. The home owner has a 22'x29' driveway that is 4 inches of concrete(no rebar i hope) covered with 2 inches of asphalt. Do I take off the asphalt with the skid first or just hammer all of it and then remove? The asphalt is stuck down pretty good, and the hammer I will be using is a 60 pound Electric. I can get a skid hammer, but its going to involve going about 45 miles to pick it up and take it back. So how would you do it? Im thinking $1.50 a sq ft? Thanks

The asphalt is a problem or it would be here. Guys that crush rubble concrete want it clean same with asphalt.

If the asphalt will scrape off do it if not you may have troubles getting rid of the old concrete.

Talk about low balling the job I wouldn't bid any less than 1500 dollars.

You should find out what is involve with the disposal first. If a recycler will take it with the asphalt or not.

I would agree. More than likely you will need to separate the asphalt from concrete. The asphalt will peel right up once you get under it, especially if the temp is warm.

I would take the time to get a skid steer breaker, unless the pad is really cracked up, which you likely wont know until you take the asphalt up. The 2 hour drive to pickup and drop off the hammer will much more comfortable than trying to break that pad with a 60 pound electric hammer. You will be much more productive and you wont be beating the hell out of you machine trying to load out the pad. Especially if the pad turns out to be thicker than you think it is. I think your price is reasonable. Depending on the distance you have to truck it and dump fees if any.

Thanks for the info. The distance to haul it is 1/2 mile, and no dumping fees. The trucking will run $150-200. How many tandem loads should this take?

I get about 275 square feet of 4" concrete on a 16' demo body triaxle. Thats if it is broke up well.

If the concrete was tacked before the asphalt was laid it won't be easy to seperate it.
Get the dink and you should have it easily in two loads.
Put a clause in your price if rebar is encountered it will be an extra.
$2/sf would be my price without rebar.
