So I lost my keys in my cabin fire. I lost my deere , and cat keys. All I've got left is my Hitachi. I've got a loaner sets for now, I remember when I got a spare set of Volvo keys they were over 100 bucks. Other the walking into the local dealerships, are there anywhere I can pick up keys. Any help would be great. Sorry If I'm not quick to respond I'll be back and forth for the next few weeks due to the local fires.

Unless those keys have some kind of chip in them they are cheap as can be. Many times they will give them to you for nothing.
Mine broke off half way in and now I use a Stihl chainsaw scrench to start my mower up.

Some of the bobcat machines I don't know about others but they use a chip to prevent starting without the right key.

They do? ;) Never heard that, I know CAT has some set up like that, but never heard of Bobcat having it.
And either a locksmith or Ebay..

my bobcat keys are the same as my Vermeers and I think a number of other brands have the same ignition setup. My newer CAT was different, though. Check around.

Ebay is a good option. I have about 7 or 8 keys right now, enough to run pretty much all the dirt equipment I'd come across. Remember, Case keys work in most Bobcat and IR equipment.

Rock on brother. You guys staying busy out there? Slim pickens out here from last fall until about 2 months ago, things are starting to look a little better.
I'd like to get my hands on a couple Volvo keys, I was told they are anywhere from $50-80 a piece.

Slow as molasses. I can't get any work with the union at all. I'm 19 and trying to get a good career going. So I'm going to do a dozer training course with them in September and hopefully get on as an apprentice. I've volunteered and done whatever I can to get on with them, and I just keep getting nowhere. So I'll try this, if not I'll move on.

Another question for you guys, I lost my jacket and pants I had from when I was in fire ventures. It was the yellowish kind of material not the newer dark blue material the firefighters have. I was just wondering if anyone would know where to get firefighting gear, even it was used don't mind saving some money. My boots and gloves survived for some reason.

You mean turn out gear? I hope you got some money to spend, my captain just spent $2,700 on pants and a jacket! :dizzy:

I think he's talking about wildland firefighting gear. You're thinking of Nomex, I'm not sure where to find them on the internet, but you could try a search and see what pops up.
The apprenticeship route is a good way to go, it's a struggle your first year and part of the second. This is my second season in the IUOE, plenty of days waiting for work I didn't think it was a good choice. However, when you are working, there isn't anything out there that can beat it. The experience and training is excellent, on top of that a decent wage plus bulletproof benefits. The projects that I want to be on are ones that only union contractors can bid on due to apprenticeship utilization requirements. The big road jobs are a blast, that's what I'm doing right now and wouldn't have it any other way.

Back when I was in Fire Ventures, we had the old gear the fire fighters didn't use anymore. It was yellowish colored stuff, they had all gone to the new dark blue kind. I thought maybe there was a chance I could find some used stuff, like what I had had back then at a lower cost.

Oh yeah, I know what your talking about, basically the stuff that is no longer rated to enter a structure fire? Yeah, I know what your talking about, I've got out rated stuff, but its a little newer than your stuff.. Not much though..
And I've got no clue where to look for used gear other than say Ebay, but it'd be iffy imo to buy something that important.
Btw, what is fire ventures?

Fire Fighter Volunteers, fight brush fires, and other non structural components. Basically it's a way for people who are curious about firefighting to experience the lifestyle and work with guys at potential halls they want to work at so as to get there name thrown around. Firefighters here are somewhat in abundance it's really difficult to get into alot of halls so people do whatever they can. I just wanted to volunteer and test myself.

Case key fits some Bobcat stuff and fits my Dresser loaders.
I lost the key to a T190 I was renting and it looked a lot like my Dresser key. Dresser loader key started it right up. CAT keys are universal. Deere only has a few different keys.
I picked up a set of 25 keys or so for 30 bucks from my Komatsu/Dresser dealership.
