Do they make a piece just to bolt on the discharge hole instead of buying the mulching kit? Where can I purchase this or the mulching kit online?

You can buy just the closure plate but I wouldn't recommend it, it will not mulch very well without the other pieces and the correct blades.
The part # for just the closure plate is 361394.
I am not aware of a place to buy it online, check with your local Hustler dealer for pricing and availability.

I just want it so it wont be slinging grass everywhere on the discharge side and I can fit in tighter places without the guard there.
Thanks

You wont be happy with the cut, it will clump on you if your not using the mulch kit with the block off plate.

I have a mini z 36" with the mulching kit. If i take off more than .25"-.5" I leave alot of clumps. An associate of mine has a 42" fastrack with no mulch kit. He discharges his out to the side with no clumping problems. I like the idea of mulching, but hate the clumps. I'm i doing something wrong? Is there anything I can do to my mower to stop the clumping?

PJ is once again right on the mark. I have tried it:( Sounds like maybe you might want an OCDC. That is what I have been thinking about adding.

A few things to consider..
Are you using the wavy mulching blades?
Is the belt tight?
Are you running at full throttle?
Are the engine RPM's adjusted to spec?
How wet is the grass?
These are all things that can affect mulching performance.

No, I think they are the straight mulching blades
The belt is tight
Yes, I'm at full throttle
I don't know if the engine rpms are at spec. The mower has about 40hrs on it.
The grass is dry when i mow.

Also, when I mow, I am ripping the grass instead of cutting it. I have sharpened the blades and that doesnt seem to make much difference. If I slow way down, I think it improves the cut. However, IMO this defeats the purpose of a ztr, especially a hustler. Any thoughts?

You need to be using wavy mulching blades, I would bet thats most of the problem.
The part # for the wavy blades is as follows...
mulching - right blade only 794214
mulching - left blade only 794206

I would like a dealer to put a tach on the engine and check blade tip speed if the right blades dont help.
It is typical to have to slow down when mulching with any mower, the deck needs to be able to process the grass, its different than a side discharge that just cuts it and pushes it out the side.

I checked last night on the blades and I am using the wavy ones. They are the part numbers you have listed. I can understand needing to slow down to prevent clumping, but is there anything else I can do to prevent the ripping?

There shouldn't be any ripping, if the belt is tight and the engine RPM's are correct.
I know this sounds stupid... but are the blades on right side up?
I am assuming so if you could read the part # on them.
