Hello,

I'm putting in a raised flower bed along the front of our house and would like to know how best to deal with water drainage.

At the moment, I have the grade up to the base of the top of the foundation, however, there is brick and mortar between the foundation top and the top of my dirt. The dirt slopes down about an inch or so every foot to foot and a half. I have built a moss rock retainer wall for the outer edge.

My question/issue is; when I fill in the dirt to level it with the top of the retainer wall, it doesn't give much room for a sloped grade. How can I plan for a really wet season so that when the water congregates, it drains away from the house?

I'm attaching photo's from all sides to show what I've done to date. If I fill the dirt in from the retainer wall back to the house, I loose the grade for water run off... Also, if you look at the last picture, the hole in the siding is right about where the foundation top is, so if you use that to look at hte front of the house, the dirt is about level with the top of the foundation, however there is a brick and a half layer in height between the foundation and dirt. Is this an issue? The house does have a roof overhang that comes out to about where the annuals are planted.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

As long as you have gutters and the downspouts are routed away from the bed your amount of ponding should be minimal. You will only have what falls from the sky on the site, not run off from other sources.
