Thought I'd throw up some pics of what I've got going on these days. More pics of the iron than what we're doing, though.

This outfit is awesome to work for, couldn't be happier I ended up being dispatched here 2 months ago. I work with a bunch of really cool guys, we're not a very large crew but we knock out a good amount of work. The company does mostly heavy highway work, which is what I wanted to get into. Before I started here, if someone asked me who I would like to work for, they'd be #1 on the list. As it turned out, I got lucky enough to be dispatched here.

Old school 315's are my favorite, love these hoes. For the youngsters, tip of the day: this is the correct way to set down a hoepac.

Nice pics Scag. Love that heavy iron. So what do they have you doing these days? Get to run the PC600 at all?

I was dispatched to run roller, we've been working on a serious fill for an onramp for the better part of 6 weeks so they needed a roller hand. Once that's done, hard to say what I'll be running but it doesn't bother me to be on the roler, gotta start somewhere with a new crew and with the way work is this year, I'll go wherever and do whatever needs to be done to keep myself busy. Every once in a while I'll get tossed on the D6 or the 5, was on the 138 a little today and yesterday, I'll hop on stuff for short periods if I need to. Aside from that, I run the wheel dozer the most. I'll run anything we have on site, but everyone has a piece more or less assigned to them so I don't bounce around too much. I have run the 600 a little, it's a riot. So much bucket, loads a truck in 2 passes.

I like to take care of my iron, I waxed my roller today. It's hard to tell, but it does have a nice mirror shine on the back half. Couple guys thought I was nuts. Boss has some touch up paint, I'd like to show up a couple hours early once or twice next week and start prepping the scratched up areas for paint. It is only a roller, but it's more or less "my" machine, so I'd like to keep her looking good.

Nice iron Scag. I agree it doesn't hurt to keep the equipment clean. It's the most recognizable aspect of a construction company. You don't see it very often in big operations though. It's great that you take pride in your work and your equipment!! :clapping:

How do y'all like the D5K? Been thinkin' about getting one. Actually also toyin' with tradin' in a D6D for a D6K. :cool2:

I have about 10 hours on the 5K, I really like it. Seems the other guys don't mind it either. It's very responsive, especially in the blade. When I first ran a 6R last year, my first thought was how fast the blade response was. The K series seems to blow that right out of the water. I really like the decel/brake combo pedal, a fairly convenient feature. Pushing power is pretty good for a 5, it handles a fair amount of material even when working up a slope pretty well.

Nice scag. I am always impressed by how well you treat your stuff. If you ever think about coming out east, I might have an excavator for you to run on some ROWs. I know how much you like running a machine on a 25 degree slope with power lines running overhead

Nice pictures Scag. It's funny, I would never want to work on jobs like that - glad you like to.:)

Oh yeah man, give me a good hoe, a 2:1 slope and I'll have at it! haha

No big jobs Stuve? The concept grows on you, although I will admit I sometimes miss the days of running minis and skids. When I was growing up, a 120 was a big hoe in my book, whole new ballgame this heavy highway work.

Nice machines! What all have you been running? A little of whatever needs to be run or do you have a certain machine you operator.

either way I'd like to sit in the pc600 for a day

No way, give me a secluded home site to work on with the 135 and skid and that's perfect for me. The less interference the better, better yet no plans 'just make it so'.

stuve why would you not like that kind of site to work on? Just curious.

My first couple weeks were all over the place, ran the 325C we had for a couple days, spent a little time in the Komatsu WA320 loader, the roller for a little bit, we have a 305CR off and on that I was using for odds and ends, I didn't do the same thing two days in a row. Reason being is that we had some trucking issues on my second day, after that we weren't brining in material so the roller was parked and they bounced me around to keep me busy. On my 3rd week we started the onramp, I was on the roller for a solid 4 weeks. Now I'm split almost halfway between the roller and the wheel dozer, but will jump on anything I need if somone isn't using it.

No joke the 600 is a wild ride, super fast machine and will drag that bucket very well. It's set up for pipe work with that long stick and the pin grabber doesn't help toward breakout, but it seems to handle it pretty well regardless.

Stuve, the structuring of these jobs can bind you up, but I look at it another way. You figure out how to work around problems, time management is absolutely key on these jobs. Right now I bounce between 3 different areas of the project assisting 3 different operators, making sure I get everyone taken care of in a timely fashion can press me for time, especially since things can change very quickly. So it's a big learning experience, can be stressful but I really wouldn't have it any other way.

Too much BS with big stuff like that. For me a big skid and the 135 size excavator is just right. I also like more creative work although if given the chance to build something like a golf course I would be all over it.

The cool thing in this industry is there is so many niche areas or segments to work at, yet we are still moving dirt.
