I have a client that wants lamps mounted on top of stacked stone columns. I have already up light and down lit them from above, but he still wants something mounted on the top.
I'm looking for a fixture that looks like a standard line voltage unit, but does not have the typical glare bomb attributes.

Anyone know of anything in a LV line that would work?

you can convert those 120v fixtures to low by wiring them to a LV run and then using 12v medium base lamps.

I have used the medium (A19) based low voltage and bulbs with little success. I have yet to find a bulb that will last a reasonable amount of time.

I also don't like the glare bomb created. I'd like to find an MR-16 based fixture with a top reflector capable of dispersing the light.

use frosted candelabras.....much softer....you can get as low as 4 or 7watts.,....James has ade some suggestions in the past of using some Par20's I think?

It's a clear 11 watt lamp with a medium screw base. The MOL is 3.5 inches and the 130 Volt filament simply glows a lovely orange. GE claims a 3K hour life but they seem to last longer.

They are cheap and really do a good job.

The GE order code is 12575.

We have swapped lamps for the par 20 lamps with good results. Everyone always raves about it because they get to use the decorative fixtures without blinding people. I have not seen the lamp Tom is reffering to but it also sounds promising.

As always the tried and true dimmer can be your best friend too.

As Billy said... use 35W PAR20 Halogen lamps in the standard "coach lights" I have been doing this for years with great sucess. The clients all rave about how much they like their fixtures with the PAR20 lamps in them. It really enhances the 120V fixtures as it fills them with light without providing a line of sight to the filament.

Looks good with the PAR 20's. I'll have to get 120v across the drive somehow.
