I know many of you are going nuts with posts that read like this...
Hi Im thinking of starting a lawn buisness and needs advise...
First of all HALF of these are misspelled in the titles?
The other aggrevation is the posters never seem to stay around to contribute down the road. Names like: Fifth Wheel, SKEE, lickity, grassgrower, Primates, RSMedic, DaveinVa, remsen, rookiepa, weedkiller, kends, marcusvh, charrod all have vanished after requesting similar advice.
And the advice was good?
Take some time people and educate yourselves slightly on the topic you request information on before you request it.
I am more than willing to help those who are willing to help themselves first.

Funny....there are 21 matches if you type the word "search" in the search field.......therefore if you would have done a search on the word "search" than this post would not exist. JK :D
But your point on looking back on threads that you start is common courtesy.
I think another is titling your thread with information that at least makes sense and lets everyone know what your topic is .

Not trying to disagree with anyone but i really don't see what the big deal is. Seems like theres alot more stuff out there to worry about than something as petty as this. Those posts never seem to bug me...i just don't reply and move on. There is much more for me to be concerned about then if whether or not someone used the search function on this site. Rambling off a list of 13 names of "offenders" seems quite useless.

I agree with pro turf, i just dont reply to the ones that have been asked over and over again.
well i encourage people to do search. i also encourage anyone who is a little shaky in the spelling department,to post you re question.spelling will have no bearing on my answer ,if i think i may be able to shed some light on the subject.
i believe the education level is more varied in lcos than most any other field.so not all of us are going to have great command of the kings english.
some post are tough to understand but id rather these folks post, than just lurk.intelligence, should never be measured by ones formal education.imho
poster please dont take this as an attempt to put u dn in anyway. i try not ever get into that stuff.just my opinion on the subject u posted on.

Its the difference of two years of reading these posts vs. two months.
If I didn't put names along with the post it would give the impression I did not research it before I hit "post".
I appreciate the feedback, Im all alone in my dispair...

Like it or not, I think those posts are simply a byproduct of the internet forum exchange. They exist on every single technical forum or list server I subscirbe to, and they are not likely to dissapear.
Some folks are going to pose intelligent questions, other are going to ask reasonable questions, and some are just plain clueless. Some search and find their answers; we don't even know they were here. Others don't search, but when I think about how much information is now avaliable to me via the internet I am grateful to have it even if I need to sift through the occasional crap.
Its funny how technology makes things easy for us, but we still gripe. Remember going to the library to search the card catalog for a book on widgets, and then having to place your name on the waiting list?
I'm going to side with you on this ToroGuy. The spelling, wording, and not replying back after your question has been answered, are my biggest beefs.
Sometimes I wonder how some of these individuals actually run a business with some of the questions/spelling that they come up with! We all need a little help here and there, and anything that I do that may be of help to someone else, gets posted by me. But some of these questions/comments/stupid stories, are of no benefit to anyone but the poster that makes them.
What bugs me the most is when two questions about the same subject appear on the same opening page! Then you get people replying to both, and both originators dont respond!
Just about everything thats asked on this forum has been touched on in some fashion since Dec of 1999. Some topics were covered WAY more than others!
I'm all for reintroducing a topic here and there, but when that topic was just discussed yesterday, why ask it again?
Sorry if this offends anyone, but its just how I feel.
Results may vary.
Use only as directed!

I too have been totally amazed/shocked at the TERRIBLE spelling on here. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was on a kiddy site, with 7 and 8 year olds doing the posting.
I have wondered how they run a business with the poor spelling as well.
Is that any indication of how their business is???

Oh, o.k., Tommy,
So, what are you saying, that you have a problem with 25 threads popping up for a search term such s "pricing"? Or, is that Prysing?:p :D

Thanks for coming to my rescue men.
My hope was to improve or reduce some of the "Barney and Friends" opening questions. The poor spelling observation is very common in these queries. I realize that this isn't English 101.
Thanks

I agree guys. This gets done WAY to often on here. Post a extremely general "basic 101" question and leave. This site is for learning this business. Why in the heck would you come here and say "I'm thinking about this, so what should I do?" HELLO, but isn't this what this forum is all about? Its here for free, the entire site is about that very subject.
People should have enough drive to do some work themselves. If they can't do something like a simple search, how can they ever make a business run?

How you can let it bother you... I don't know?
Maybe they don't see the 'search'... or they're so excited to have found the site that they overlook it... or they are ignorant.. or too lazy... or whatever.
What's the big deal? All you have to do is ignore it.
Maybe the search feature should be larger or separate?
Maybe something like... SEARCH B4 YOU POST... SO THE OLDTIMERS HERE DON'T GET CRANKY :D

I'm tired of hearing it allready. I'm new to the site, and I love it. What bothers me is there's not enough new Threads to read. If everyone used the gosh darn Search all the time. Then there would be no need for new Threads at all. So why not just eliminate the intended purpose of this site and get rid of the Post and reply buttons completely.
Matter of fact, If I was keeping some type of reacord, then this thread would be under my Stupid Topic list.
I know some of you guys are old timers here, And I love ready alot of your post and replys. I've been in business for 10 years and I've learned alot from you guys in the last few weeks, But I have to agrre with some of the others. This topic is as old as any other.
Just my $0.02 worth.

As if some of you have never misspelled a word from time to time.
It seems to be that their has been a lot of criticism on this site in the last month.
I bet everyone on here has asked a question that they could have used the search for.
Let’s say a new guy or girl comes one the site that has a way of making strips that we have not talked about, how would we find out about it if some one didn’t ask?

Before I post a thread, I do a search on the subject that I'm questioning. I agree with both sides on this one but, it seems like your beating a dead horse. As long as LS site is here this will continue to happen. If you come across a post that has been disscussed you don't have to click on it. I belong to another forum on the net and the same thing goes on there. No way around it.

I just pass over posts I don't want to reply to. Search is good if you know what to search for and get results. Often the search ends up with too much info about nothing related to the search. It's a catch 22 so just ignore whatever you don't want to reply to. Helping a newbie to search for a particular word or phrase is more help than just scolding for not searching at all. Also, an occasional misspelled word is different from an unreadable post.

Let me see if I can explain this a little better. This site is basic 101 to an much detail as you want. Basic 101 is not 1 thread. You can not answer basic 101 questions with 1 post. The most Basic 101 thread you can get is "I'm thinking of starting a lawn cutting biz, what should I do?" This question involves TONS of things.
This is basic knowledge stuff. Thus the reason you need to spend time reading first. That is the question that bothers me. Spelling, grammer, etc are just normal and I can deal with that. No big deal to me. Its the lack of respect for all of us on here to just ask the most basic of all questions when the answer is "this site".
Which mower, which blower, which trimmer, should I get insurance, etc, etc... are all normal. But doing basic "homework" for yourself and your future biz is very important if you plan to make it. Any business venture is tough. If someone is not willing to put a little effort in now, would they be willing to put the effort in later with customers?
I don't care if people use the search function often. Like I said, most questions are going to come up often. I just think that new people should be told the answer to the "basic question" is THIS SITE. Start reading and enjoy. Come on---Its free!

If a person found LawnSite they are more capable than...HOws Do I start a lawn buisness? How do I type?
It is similar to telemarketers, I suppose all y'all spend your evenings chatting with them? I hang up...but it still is annoying.
Anyway it seems like a divided issue and I'll drop my  whining. I just don't want to see this place turn into a diaper changing station.

I just found this site today and the first thing I did was to use the search feature. As I have found on other boards (not related to lawncare), sometimes the search feature isn't as useful as it seems. Several attempts are often needed to get some of the info you're looking for. I'm sure I'll find this site useful, but something I've found on other sites is that spelling is less important than info. I never typed a day in my life prior to January of this year--never used a computer for that matter, but if someone's question seems redundant you're not at all obligated to reply. My opinion: if I can answer a question and possibly help somebody out, grammer is the least important aspect of their query--so long as they can read my post.
