View Full Version : raised patio against foundation?

Im sure there is alot of information out there if I look, just wondering what everyones thoughts are about compacting material against the foundation in a raised patio? Should it not be done? Is it safer to build a retaining wall against the house and compact against that? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've read about guy's using foam board against foundation walls when they compact on an overdig.

If it's a poured wall - we'll compact right up to the edge, with a small compactor (wacker 1550), in 2-3" lifts. Done many raised patios and never had any issues.
If it's a block foundation, and new - then you may not want to run a compactor along the wall.

use clean stone for the bulk of the raised portion. that requires minimal compaction. then separate with geotex and put 4" of ABC on top.

we build a stone wall infront of foundation and fill inbetween with clean stone..
