I tried to due some of my own research before asking this beat to death question.. The hustler website no longer shows the h.p. and torque specs for the engines..

We're going to trade in the spring for 2 66's I'm curious about the diesel as opposed to the 31.. The last I saw the 31 had more torque than the diesel on paper..

Also need to know if the 12 m.p.h. speed of the diesel is from the HT set-up, or from the diesel only turning 3K's as opposed to 3600+ on the gassers?

I could see the diesel having an advantage on the hills if it has the HT pumps and motors.

Anyone that has a diesel 66 i would like to hear from you.

Thanks, Chad @ C&K lawn

There isn't a HT version of the diesel, it has 21cc Hydro gear pumps like all the Super Z's but uses the Hydro Gear BPM wheel motors, they are axial piston type, totally different than what the Super Z or Hustler Z uses.
It is a heavier duty drive set up for sure.
Its a awesome handling unit on slopes, one of our best for sure.

Thanks for that much but what about thise torque numbers??

I got a call from my dealer this am, I lost the left drive on my super66 yesterday, I'm not impressed with the longevity of the super drive system..

Turns out a spline in the wheel motor broke and ruined a pump..

I would settle for less wheel speed for more torque and reliability..

Torque...
Kawasaki lists the max. torque for the 31hp engine at 54.3 ft.lbs @ 2400 rpm
Hustler Diesel Z max. torque is 48.6 ft.lbs. @ 2200 rpm

Hope this helps.

I think one of the reasons you dont see torque numbers published is because the the peak is, for example, at 2200 rpms and they operate way above that. More like 3600-3750. Most of the time the torque drops off rather quickly after peak is reached. I think for mowing applications horsepower is the most important number to look at.
