I have a 2008 Scag with a 17 Kawi that is under warrantly still. While using the machine about every 15 minutes or so the machine will cut out, and stop running for a split second. It does not affect the operation of it at all, however it does concern me. It also backfires once in a while when it does this, which leads me to believe it is an electrical issue. Has anybody had this issue on any of their Kawis or know how to solve this issue. I hate to waste time bringing it to the dealer if it is a simple fix. Thanks.

I'd check all the hardware that fastens the grounds down to the metal.
And of course all the connectors too. And the safety switch connections.

Sounds like your bouncing up off the seat while mowing along or there is a problem with the seat safety switch, It's killing the ignition for that split second but the engine is still sucking fuel into the cylinder. When the ignition recovers (seat switch re-connects) it fires the excessive fuel in the cylinder/muffler causing the back-fire.
I see your only 19 years old, Do you carry enough pocket change to fully activate the seat switch ? No pun intended, But I have sold a couple Z's to customers and their wife wasn't heavy enough to trip the switch and keep it running.

The mower is a walk behind so there is no seat but there is still safety switches on the handlebars. I will have to check into this and possibly jump the switch to see what switch is the problem. And yes I have enough "pocket change" possibly too much

No prob, I would have assumed it was a ZTR too. It really doesn't matter if it is a walk behind or ztr, they both have several safety switches. Thanks for the help.
