First pic is one I grabbed while driving, so its blurry, but its one of the worst examples of a machine tied down I've ever seen. One strap at the back, using the fenders of the trailer as the anchor points.

Second/third are from my Komatsu dealership. I climbed up on the HD325 and its quite a view from the cab position. Third is where we're getting setup to install a 600' water line service lateral with 1" CTS poly at 24" depth. Final pic is....well, guess. Kudos to the first person that can tell me the size of the wire......

750 is my final answer.

Just plain 'ol 500 MCM....Crap that stuff is hard to work with. Thank goodness the pull to the meter base was only 50 feet for this one. 750 is a true butt kicker for anything over about 15'-even with a four man crew and pulling with the bucket off the mini up from the transformer.

You know it son! When we do it, we do it right! :cool2:

Jeff, Dad used to pull wire and I am not sure of the gauges or size, whatever yall call it(I was to young to really want to learn, I just liked the equipment), but he pulled some big as wire and he only pulled with a wire puller and a fourwheeler.

Ever considered a wire puller? I am not even sure how the one he had worked, but it set in the bed of the pick up, like I said I was more interested in the equipment instead of learning..

In Virginia the concrete crews tie their Bobcats down like that all the time. They all use straps and throw them over the cabs or through any grab handle they can find and role down the road. It is amazing how they never get busted.

That tie down is awful. Ia DOT is cracken the wipe in my area. Lenght of safety chains to tie down points for skids, backhoes, trenchers to checking diesel fuel in guys trucks. The other day they stopped 46 dually trucks with trailers - no matter the trailers, checked everything. 4 guys had off-road fuel in the tank. They claimed there were out of a job in no-mans-land and need fuel to so they pump the fuel in from the tank in back of truck. Everyone fined!

there was a guy around here that hauled a JD 450 crawler loader on an old trailer, ancient truck and used two 3500 lb ratchet straps from home depot to tie the machine down! the troopers knew about him but ignored him for some reason. He also ran "farm" tags which are illegal if you are engaged in commercial work which he was. he didn't have a commercial license or the right insurance, either. He told me that part.. very sad and scary at the same time. It is very common here in S. central Texas even though we aren't too far from San Antonio.
From uncovered loads on trailers, to machines that are not tied down in dump trailers and utilitiy trailer to duallies pulling backhoes with tie down straps, I see it all around here. I'll have to start taking some pictures.

Saw even better one yesterday....F250 w/ JD260 on an undersized trailer, wheels squatting, and the JD w/no tie downs. You could visibly see the trailer move forward/backward during acceleration and braking.

Oh yeah, two kids in the front, no seatbelts......:hammerhead:

Ha! the guys around here arent as bad.. But bigger machines..

one of them is one of the many clearing and grading guys around here and he's got this huge international dump(it looks like a truck that is used in Ohio, alot of space between the cab and first rear axle for up to 4 cheaters, except no cheaters) that he pulls a Towmaster 10ton(I think, might be bigger) that is loaded with I believe a 939. I've never seen a chain on that dam thing and dont follow it to close cause the loader rolls back and forth as the driver shift gears. That truck is no longer on the road for different reasons though.

Then there is a landscaper that decided to try dirt work well he went and bought a 30ft 10ton gooseneck and a new F450 King ranch and a Caterpillar MTL of some number but he pulls that thing all over(I've never heard if he's got work or not) and not even a strap over the rear of the machine. I dont know how he doesnt get caught.
