I have a 2004 Hustler Super Z 52 inch. I had the engine oil and filters replaced 2 work hours ago as well as putting on a new set of blades.

After about 30 minutes of use, i noticed a bit of a lag in speed when accelerating either forwards or backwards on the mower.

It stopped and started back much worse after about 2 hours of use.

When I push the drive forward, I am getting almost no acceleration. However, if I push them forward VERY VERY VERY slowly, the unit will begin to pick up speed and will actually begin to drive like normal until I have to stop. Then I have to start the process all over again.

If I push the drive forward all the way without the slow speed buildup, it will begin to smoke from under the seat but stops as soon as I back off of it.

I have been keeping it shut down until I can figure out what the problem is but I ran it long enough to try to get a bit of information for you guys.

Any ideas what my problem might be?

I'm dead in the water until I can get her back up and running right again so any quick help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JT

This sounds like you have a wet drive belt, maybe oil? or a worn out drive belt.
You need to get it jacked up in the back and take a look at the belt.
You also need to look at the tensioner pulley and spring.
Make sure the tensioner pulley doesn't have a bad bearing.
