Is it recommended to resand a patio after a certain number of years? Is it time to resand when the weeds are growing everywhere? Is there an industry best practice on when to resand? Got a 9 year old patio with a fair amount of weeds growing in the cracks. Sprayed them, but they keep coming back.

can you powerwash the sand out, and replace it with polymetric(sp?) sand? Done once and for all that way.

There is no set time to re-sand a paver patio. It all depends on how quickly the old sand is lost. If you're using the hose or blower on the patio a lot, the sand will be lost more quickly.

Like Image said, the solution is to use a polymeric sand. Get the weeds out. Pressure wash or blow the sand out of the joints. Apply some pre-mixed polymeric joint sand. Broom it into the joints. Lightly blow the excess off the top of the pavers. Then wet it all down. This sets the polymeric sand.

After that, you should never have to replace the sand or deal with weeds in the joints again.

Polymeric sand is the way to go. It is not 'weed proof'. You will still get some weeds occasionally but nowheres near as many as with basic washed sand.

Yah, I guess that's true. It's not 100% weed proof. But it's probably 98-99%.
