I have a 262 that keeps blowing a fuse. It looks to me, when I take off fuse panel, the fuse with gas pump symbol keeps blowing. I change it, start machine then it blows. If I keep the key to start position, the engine stays on, do this for second but don't want to ruin my starter, then shuts off when I release key to run position. Seem like it cuts out the engine. Is the shut off solenoid bad or some kind of switch to it? I looked at some wires for wear but look good. Any ideas where to start? Anyone else have this problem before? Any help deeply appreciated.
Thank,
Rob

I would be looking at the wires going in and out from the starter and solenoid, I think there is some kind of jumper system mounted on the left or right inside wall of the engine bay.
Try putting a slightly higher fuse in and see what happens, give it 30 seconds, if it gets warm, then the problem is somewhere in the wires.

Thanks bobcat_ron, I will check that out. Just seems once engine starts something is cutting it out, think it is shut off solenoid , but not the solenoid itself, something before it.
I thinking it may be on of the relays in engine compartment. I will start to replace the one with sample gas gauge symbol, the same symbol as the fuse that blows.. I wish had schematics for the machine. I just have parts and operation manuals.

Thanks,
Rob

If it's a "a"model with the three wire fuel solenoid you are probably right that it's bad. Pretty easy to test, unplug the connector and jump the two smaller wires to the batt using the same size fuse. To test the wiring only unplug the solenoid and try cranking the machine, it won't start but it won't know that.

Thanks for the higher fuse rating idea Ron, good old job security, I love it!

JK don't do that fuse deal you can make a mess of a perfectly good harness, fuse panel relay etc.
Auto fuses blow at 200% there capacity very dangerous or maybe just expensive.

I bought the solenoid yesterday and replaced it today and works great! Thanks for the help.

Just for curiosity's sake was it the "a" model three wire style?

Good to here you got it running anyway.
