I bought a new 2009 2500HD Silverado that came with the integrated trailer brake system. I cannot get the truck to output to the trailer brakes. The brakes and trailer are fine as they worked on my 07 truck and the 06 we still have. Both are equipped with an after market braking controller. I stopped by the trailer shop and they said that Ford and Chevy were having problems with there systems. Is anyone familiar with this issue. I hate to take the truck in to the dealer as we are behind with all the rain we have been getting. Thanks for your input.

Are you by any chance using an adaptor to go from a big round camper plug on the truck, to the smaller round plug on the trailer? If so, is it a new adaptor? I have had to rewire every adaptor I have ever purchased to go frm the big round to the small round plug. Always the same problem, trailer brakes either lock up, or do not work at all.

There is no adapter. It is the same plug I have always used.

Get a pin-out and a meter and figure out if you have volts where there is supposed to be volts.
If that checks out, make sure everything is grounded right.

Make sure your 3rd brake light is working.
What happens when you move the level yourself?
Not to call you a lier, but check the trailer with a different truck. We have been told "the trailer brakes work fine, its the truck" way to many times & the trailer needs a brake job.

Yes the trailer works with our other truck. The third light works on the brakes. Today it started working but you had to manually engauge the tb with the key in the run position. When you shut the truck off you have to do it all over again????????????

I had to take my '08 2500 HD in for the same problem. Dealer said there have been some issues with the integrated trailer brake systems. There is some sort of relay along the frame rail, near the rear axle, that fails. I took the truck in twice, once to diagnose and order the relay, then again so they could install the part. No problems since.

Chevy made some changes & the brake lights only work when the key is on, the 3rd brake light is what tells the brake control you are pushing the brake pedel.
I work in a trail repair shop & I have not seen any Chevys with bad controls, Ford had a problem with late 04 to early 05 controls. They would not put out any amps, so they would not work.
