Can anyone tell me if these are any good? The ones listed around here (several for $150) are 3.5hp and ten blades. Most, if not all are said to be older but in good working order. There is one for $250 with newly sharpened blades, oil change and carb cleaning.

So, are these any good for a HO?

If you are going to mow your lawn every 2-3 days and it is flat as a board it will work fine provided you have Bermuda, Bentgrass or some other variety that can take low mowing heights.

The big problem with these units is they are belt driven, so grass gets a little thick and you are beginning to smell the burning rubber. Look for a Tru Cut or a Pro Master or a Trimmer brand. Promaster has been out of production for years so parts are scarce but they were great mowers.

These mowers will cost anywhere from 60-80 for a grind or true sharpening. Others will just lap the blades and call it a sharpening for 50-70 bucks.

Tru-Cut is one of the best out there, however an incorrectly adjusted clutch on that mower will give you lots of grief. The blades will jam and the clutch will slip if you hit thick grass. I have nothing against a McLane with a sharp and properly adjusted reel/bedknife. In many cases, it will do just fine for a homeowner mowing his own lawn. Tru-Cut or Trimmer holds up better if mowing lawns 5 days a week, several hours a day.

I have a TruCut that I am selling if interested. It's a H-22 with a 3.5 Briggs and Stratton and starts on first or second pull.

I can post a picture and a video of it if you want.

SO let me get this right:

Reel mowers are not good for grass like Zoysia?

Just how high can you adjust the cut of something I would use?

I should wait until I top dress before I even think about cutting with a reel mower? (Front Bermuda, rear Emerald Zoysia)

Maybe I don't need to buy one. Its not like I have a hard time cutting either with my good ole 22" Craftsman push mower. I just though and read that reel mowers make a much nicer looking yard. I'm retired, so cutting every 2 or 3 days is no big deal.

Whats your price? Seriously, I'm only willing to spend about $150 on one. CL seems to be about the only place to find one at that price. Most are in the $250 - 600 range. Not that I don't appreciate the offer, I'm pretty sure you want more for yours than that.

Your right, I want more than $150. Make me a reasonable offer and I will let you know.

I dont know what I was thinking, the TruCut I have for sale is a 20", not a 22".

Impala, This post is 2 years old but for review consideration I must say RUBBISH.
These mowers are superior mowers, I would stay away from anything with a TRIMMER in its name. Flat surface is not a must and Zoisa is a fantastic grass.
Maintenance for a Reel mower is simple, Sharpen the bedknife once a year, the rest is the same as any mower.
I hope you have a nice Zoisa yard

There is nothing wrong with Mclane mowers. I have used them for years.
Just as good as the trucut.
