I have the "mound" holes in various spots and have these "normal" holes all over. Both of these are mainly in the back half of the yard where the ground is softer and moist. There is also a natural pond present.

I also have some good sized mole trails in the yard , I'm guessing whatever these are, are their food source?

hire a raccoon to eat them.

you live close to water or a creek or just a wet spot in the yard?

We have a pond in the backyard. Closer you get to the pond, softer the yard is. It holds the water when it rains, but gets semi-firm after a few weeks of no rain.

I have found those exact kind of hole in my front yard by the drive way.
I dropped a rock in one can counted 3 Mississippi before it heard it hit water! There are 3 holes clustered together here. Is it confirmed moles? what about voles? I have read that those critters will use the mole entrances to get in and out of your underground.

You all crack me up this is not a mole hole it is a crawdad hole a coon will eat them but that is about all. Good Luck getting rid of them.

I also have moles in the back yard and mentioned that (as a seperate statement), guess that's where some are getting their confusion from.

I guess it's time to get a crayfish trap and start fishing for them.

interesting, I never heard of crayfish(crawdads) doing that.
I stand informed it is crayfish(crawdads) not moles!\
Now to find a coon that will cooperate and git dem crawdads (crayfish)

This is the best thread ever without a doubt you need a couple of coons to get rid of the crawdads. do a google search for crawdad holes and you will see that is what they are.
