Well it really depends alot on your marketing!
I think the best thing to do is, pick a day and mow as many yards on your block as you can. Do it during the day when the people are at work. This will give you a base line to write your business plan.
Good luck!

I've never seen a lawn an acre big, but I do 12-18 lawns a day between 500-4000 square feet. :)

Did 7 today. 3 @5000ft2, 2 at 15000ft2, 1 at 22000ft2, 1 at 44000ft2. What kills me is drive time.

I could do 8 one acre yards if they were close by and the trim work wasn't too bad.

This is an impossible question to answer. There are too many variables. Your equipment may be different. You may have no experience with a comm'l trimmer. It will take at least 1 full season for you to really start getting good with it. Since your considering 1 acre average, you either live in an area with large lawns or you really have no idea what 43,560 sf looks like.
Also, 25 miles is a lot of area to cover. This would play big into how many you can do.

Did 14 on Sat. Average size about 10,000 square feet. Use a Toro 44inch WB. Work solo. Just me,me,me. More money for me,me,me,me. Most I ever did in 1 day was 20 not including my own at the end of the day.

As was stated, too many variables.
Equipment, drive time, operator skill, trim time, terrain, weather, time of year (growth conditions) square footage on and on.
It all depends on the variables. You know that if you have 1 acre of flat land you can cut in x amount of time with a Lazer. Now make that 1 acre on a hilly and bumpy slope that has been fertilized with a nitrogen bomb from Chemlawn. Now use a walk behind. Now add 200 trees to the land.
Not being a smart a$$ but it can't be answered by anyone but you.

I can honestly say that it really depends alot on the mood of your employees, if you motivate them successfully, alot can be accomplished. We usually tend to do between an avergae of 15 yards, the beauty of that is that they are relatively close.

What the friday???
Who in the world cares how many lawns you can do per day? It isn't how many lawns you mow that is important, it is how much you make mowing them...and then think even further, how much you get to keep of that after paying your expenses.
I know of some LCO's that make more money mowing 50 lawns a week than some that do 85.
It ain't bout how much you make...it's bout how much you keep!

I do about 8-10 a day based on a 5 to 6 hour day. I guess that sounds about average from what most poeple replies are saying.

Good point Rod!!! Maybe a better question would be "What's the average price of a yard that you mow?". I can mow 5 monster yards one day and gross as much as 15 cupcake yards I mow the next day.

An even better question would be: How much do you average hourly on lawns? How much profit do you make per lawn? How much do you take home in a day solo? How much is profit?
Still, it's a fun exercise. ;)

Right On Rodfather!!! Guess it's better to figure out your figures before you get too deep into it. Unfortunately if you are starting out most guys take anything they can get to get the dollars flowing in before they realize they have some real losers on their hands.
(Sounds like I did this, huh?)
Try your best to get some "quality customers" who more than likely will come from friend and family referrals. They'll be a little more receptive to helping you out along the way.

The average per lawn is a variable depending on whether or not you have to bag or disperse clippings??? Are you having to double cut to keep the appearance you want and are you charging correctly??? Do you have to trim each visit or can you get away with just the curbs and walks leaving the beds go every other week, or does everything get done each time completely???
I figured todays run and came up with approximately 17.5 acres in 15 hrs with about 2hrs of S.T.U.D. time. For sake of conversation lets use an even $1000 gross take home today.
Divide that by the hours in the field and you get $66/hr average. Take out 40% for overhead etc., and that leaves you $600/net day.
Take that figure and you find that you made a profit of $40/hr or $75 per lawn. Which in all actuality means that if Im shooting for $48/hr and I made under the $1k mark, that Ive either got to cut more effieciently next time, or raise my prices -LOL!!!

I'm trying to work this all out with a spreadsheet for myself to do a bit of pre-planning....
what is the AVERAGE going rate for a quality Mow w/ trim edge blow on a 12000-15000sf residental?
What is the AVERAGE time it takes do the job?
What is the AVERAGE travel time? Distance?
How many clusters? or multiple at one stop?
There are a million variables...
