uplighting large pin oaks?

evening guys,
i'm mostly from lawn/plow site but check this site often for info mostly for my own house. i am wanting to uplight some pin oaks that have base canopies about 30-40 ft in diameter. sorry if this seems like a common sense question but do you guys use flood lights or spot lights to do something like this? and do you ever use just one? i have seen some pics with lights in the trees (i think?) but i want to avoid that..any help would be great,

Sounds like a very large Pin. I have one about that size in my side yard and I would use multiple lights around it. At least 4 depending on the density of the canopy and whether or not I had some staged midway up to get the upper canopy also. You could use an MR or PAR based lamp for this. Really your choice. If going in the grass, just make sure the fixture is flush to the ground so it is mower friendly.

I don't like lighting those guys very much. The dead leaves stick on the tree for a long time and they don't look very good.
