I am going to core areate my lawn, throw down some compost on the top and overseed. I'm trying to figure out how much compost I will need. I have about 3000 sq ft of lawn.
thanks

You should be able to use up a pick-up truck load, on that much area.
If buying it in bags, I wouldn't go much less than 20.
Don't move it into piles, if you got one person to push the wheelbarrow for you, while you empty it by hand.

If you are doing it with a shovel its hard to put down any less than 1 yard per 1000, if you are using a spreader made for the job you can get stretch 1 yard to 1500 sq ft
expect 1/4 to 1/2 inch coverage at that rate
make sure it is good finished compost, it should not smell bad or be warm 2 signs of unfinished compost

do they make a special spreader to do this or are you talking about a topdresser?
