so i am having trouble again with my powerstroke.

I was able to move it this morning to work on it...
changed the oil, and the serpentine belt pulleys.
put all back together and she wont start...
she will crank, but the wait to start light, does not light.
she will start with ether, but won't stay running...plus tach does not move when starting.

she has new fuel filter, the fuel pump is working.

my thought is the glow plug relay...how about you?

It sounds like the CPS gave up the ghost or its intermittant. As for the glow plugs you could have a couple that are gone and your not getting enough voltage to the rest.

If the truck has a block heater plug it in if the truck starts and keeps running you have a glow plug problem.

Second question did you put enough oil into the engine a PSD won't start if its low on oil.

He said it starts eith ether so I doubt the injection pump is the issue. Most likely is the glow plug relay.

He said it will start with ether but its only running on it because it won't stay running. If your not getting any tach movement your CPS is gone.

If its a CPS would it even start on ether? My buddy has a 97 that acted kinda like this, dont know about the wait to start light, but it wound up being some fuel pressure something under the filter bowl. Try dieselstop.com, see if they can help more. The CPS is a cheap thing to throw in and eliminate it as a problem though.

Yes it will start on ether if the CPS didn't work because you still have a engine that turns over and a flammable liquid. No CPS no trigger for the injectors to fire fuel into the cylinders.

A 7.3 PSD won't run if the CPS is bad or you have low oil pressure or your ICP valve is gone it senses oil pressure again tells the computer to operate the injectors.

True, i wasn't even thinking about that. That would explain no tach movement and start no run, but what about his wait to start light?

The reason why his glow plugs are not working is there must be some of them burned out. You need all 8 working to make the controller work. It all works off of resistance.

Sorry guys I have been busy this week.

I got it started....it was actually a loose fuse, not a blown fuse...I really hate these dumb problems...the ac compressor pulley is going now, so thats on order for this week coming up....
