View Full Version : HELP!!! having trouble identifying this grassy weed

Have been seeing this grass in more and more yards. I know its not crabgrass, or quack grass. It grows in clumps and is a very stiff grass, wide blades, dark green.

Pre-m does not help control it. I also thought it might be tall fescue invading the mostly Kentucky and Rye yards. Q4 does nothing, Speed zone does nothing and a 200.00 bottle of Certainty did nothing.

I always have a hard time identifying grass type weeds.
Thanks guys,
Mike

It just looks like K-31 in your dwarf variety TTTF lawn. But what do I know? I'm a warm season turf guy

Should have read the first post closer. You care for primarily KBG and Rye. My vote is K-31 TF.

K 31 is great for dog fenced in areas looks like crap but handles the urine and tracking well but you will pull some unwanted weeds from the seed

def clump of fescue. shame you didn't ask what it was before you sprayed everything in the arsenal - non of which would have killed it.

Mike spray that with roundup at the lawn restoration rate stated on the label and sprinkle in some matching seed. Unfortunately you surpassed the cost of the roundup and seed with your previous shock and awe attempt.

Kentucky 31 tall fescue sounds right, peel back the sheath of the plant, close to the roots, and there should be a purplish color in the stem, near the root. I would let it grow taller, then wipe roundup on it with a wick wiper.:waving:

K 31 is correct.

lol.. I love how some people can put a sentance together that just makes me laugh. Shock and awe.... yea I guess I did hit it with alot of stuff but I guess I didn't want to swallow my pride. K31 fescue, that sucks.

Like I said earlier I did spray it with certainty because that was my first thought, that it was fescue but because it didn't croak I then thought it looked like goosegrass but q4 didn't take that out so then I thought it might be orchard grass, then swamp grass then I decided to have another Morgan coke and thought what the hell I sprayed everything else on it I might as well hit it with red zone:hammerhead: I was just about to try coke and monster energy drink but then realized they were not labeled for turf...... So now you have had a peak into mike's delirium get out while you still have a chance............:dizzy:

Iam leaning towards Wide blade fescue with the clumps.
