In Austin TX you can actually be fined for leaving grass clippings in the street. I saw a story about it on the news a while back. It is a city ordinance, because they SAY that it makes grass grow in the street.

I guess the scrubs will have to get their brooms and dust pans out.

Just wondering if you all have ever heard of anything like this.

i think our local little town here has the same thing. a friend of mine's brother was cutting their yard (about 20 years ago) and the local PD stopped him and told him he better clean it off the street. they didn't mention what kind of fines he'd face.

In California it is part of the new stormwater regulations that are inforced. Some local companies that do contract work for the city have been fined after receiving warnings. There are actually a team of stormwater code compilance officers that drive around and look for violations to inforce. At least for now it is a statewide mandate, but will probably spread to other states that have coastal areas.

I wish they'd enforce it here. It might force some of my "competition" to raise their rates since they'd actually have to stay on the job long enough to make the place look better...

Same here in New York State. It is illegal to deposit or leave
ANYTHING on a public street, whether city, town, county or
state-owned. I think it's a good law when it's enforced with
common sense. My idiot cousin is the sloppiest snowplower
in the world. He leaves half the snow from a driveway in the
street, even after he was tagged for it once. If you leave
clippings in the street, you're not doing a very thorough job
for your customer.
