what the manufacturer recommends. I'd suggest looking it up for the brand engine your mower has and use it.

I don't think that the brand is as much an issue, but you need to follow the engine manufacturers recommendation on the viscosity. My Kohler uses 30 weight, but my Kawasaki requires 10-30. I use Castrol in both, but that's just my preference.

He already knows what he is using. His question is what brand and what weight are the readers of this thread using.

Me -- Castrol SAE 30 and I add 40 when it is 90 degrees and above. Gonna switch to Synthetic next oil change - the engine just turned over 100 hours.

Pennzoil 10w30 in my Honda, both Kawasakis and my 28 EFI Kohler. Filters are changed every other oil change as per the manual for the Kawis and Kohler.

I am using Kawasaki oil for both of my kawi motors, I believe it's 10-30 but made for kawi, it's synthetic and they say they will extend the warranty for 2 years after initial warranty will expire. But you have to use this oil from very beginning. My dealer has to order it he didn't't have this oil in stock.

Dixie Chopper: Lucas 15w-40, makes it easy on me since that oil is the same for both the engine and hydros. Its a little expensive, but I don't dare take any chances with the new mower.

Bob-cat: SAE 30...I think I bought car quest oil last time and I think I still have a few more bottles of that left.

10-40 dino. I use it in my Honda car, my BMW motorcycle, and both mowers. Just change it when it looks dirty and keep the air filters clean. It's just a lawnmower engine, not a jet engine. It's not a race car. It's a lawnmower. Oil is oil. Dirt in your engine is the enemy, not the oil. But the wrong employee will screw it up anyway.

Now just how did I know you would get a variety of answers?

I run 10w-30 synth always (as in, even during break-ins).
