It is the time of year for overseeding and sod
I just wanted to tell of the great guarantee that a good buddy of mine makes with all of his customers
He makes sure he has the customers attention
"Have I told you about my guarantee?" the customer always says no
"I guarantee if you do not soak this seed (sod) every day for the next 2 weeks, it will fail"

"I guarantee if you do not soak this seed (sod) every day for the next 2 weeks, it will fail"
That's indeed a very good line.
I know of a few very, very anal people on my customers list who might take that message completely upside down, then go out & set their sprinkler systems to work def-con-5 day & night, and essentially soak the bejesus out of it until it rots... or washes away.

Oh come on Marcos, get off my tail. Okay how about keep it wet, is that okay?
No joke, very pertinent for the season
The point is, if the customer does not keep the area watered for the next 2 weeks the sod or seed will not do well or maybe not survive at all
set the customers expectations, don't BELIEVE they know what to do
otherwise you will not get hired next year

lol, indeed.
I wasn't being a pain, just wondering. Assumed everyone knew. Although it is true, customers forget that quickly when their grass is dying.

I have seeded down an area that is all bare soil. Part of it was covered by a couple of irrigation zones and another part I put a hose and timer on. This time of year is usually cloudy and rainy quite often, and with just a little encouragement the seed will grow easily.
This year however has been burning sun everyday, but one, since I put the seed down. That 1 day was only cloudy till 2pm. The client's expectation is that it should be ready to go by now. The seed germinated in 6 days, but it isn't full lush and green ready to walk on etc., etc.
Customers' expectations? Never within bounds of reason...

That's why I hand out watering instructions and a FAQ sheet to customers.

sod and seed install, depending on the time of year ete. need completely different moisture requirements.
i deal with mostly sandy soil, the only time i would suggest watering every day"lightly" would be in the middle of the summer and even then that would be for no longer then a week. over watering seed or sod is a guarantee to fail...
wet /dry cycles encourage good healthy root growth, but like kiril said moist till established

Conditions vary a lot around the country. I have been hydro seeding for 16 years and seeded as much as 2 million sq. ft a year. If my customers limited their watering to "lightly only in the hottest part of the summer" I would have most of my lawns fail. Two two three times a day except on days it rains is what I tell my customers. They might get by with less in the spring and fall but in summer if they don't do that they will have a thin lawn with lots of weeds.
Smallaxe I was going to post this and then noticed I was in the organic section
"Some may disagree with this but I think a light dose of fertilzer might have you where you want to be in a matter of 2 or 3 days."
If you are doing the lawn organically that would be a bad idea but a dose of some organic products my do what I was suggesting.
