We live in the country. What can you spray around Post Oak trees to kill poison ivy/oak? That will not harm trees. I have been just spraying diesel on the stem after it has been cut. So far it has not bothered trees. Suggestions? Thanks.

Diesel fuel will persist longer & is potentially more dangerous than many herbicides. Whilw there are plenty of residual herbicides used in forestry management, RoundUp sounds like the one for you. It has NO soil persistance so won't harm abutting trees as long as you don't hit any grrne leaves or recent bark injuries.
An easy method for you to use is the "cut stump treatment" procedure. Immediately after cutting down the pest tree, paint the fresh cut with from 50% to straight concentrated Roundup. Read & understand the label for this & many other treatment options. A covered can with a brush built into the cover may be purchased from a forestry supplier.
On the Roundup label see page 3 for information on wick, sponge, & other non-spray applicators.
On page 4 see the section on Stump Cuts.
Pay close attention to the sections on drips & root grafts too. But READ THE WHOLE THING. It's the law.
